Cowboys plan to hold camp only in San Antonio this summer, official says
Posted on 04/12/2011 by torsborn

The Dallas Cowboys are planning to hold training camp entirely in San Antonio this summer, a San Antonio city official told the Express-News on Tuesday.

“If there is a season and there is a camp, they are going to be here for the whole camp,” said Michael Sawaya, the city’s director of convention, sports and entertainment facilities. ”They won’t be splitting camp.”

Thank you Crazy! Now that's some positive news. Maybe Jerry realized this team is not a rock band that needs to be shipped around the country. Do your work in one place and get it done.

Yes, I agree Oxnard is much better for the players and the grass turf was nice and I loved visiting Oxnard etc........however, comma, I live 17 miles from the Dome so I hope you can understand my EXCITEMENT! :starspin

Did I mentioned just how EXCITED I am? ;-)

Now, they better not hold out and ruin this years training camp!

Neither do the players.. its not very practical to hold camp on that concrete like surface. But they have a contract, so i assume that's the only reason they'll hold it there this year. As the gentleman in the article stated, there has been no talk to extending the contract however, so i bet they switch locations after this last year.

Either way, holding it in only one location is definately a step in the right direction. This isn't a circus that you pick up and take on the road every other week to showcase.

hope our guys be careful we do not need any knee or ankle injuries from basically playing on concrete. Not unless they redid the turf (doubtful).

The dual location never bothered me just as I am 100% sure it never bothered the players.

Technically, it was 3 locations. SA, Oxford, and Valley Ranch.

During the season by week 17 it can be 9 locations. I am 100% convinced it had nothing to do with the results last year.

Good point, then "technically" it is a minimum of two every year as they usually break for Valley Ranch approx 2 weeks before the beginning of the regular season starts and polish up the finished product.

However, the finished product polish has not been very shinny since 95

They went to SA first, then Valley Ranch, then Oxford, then back to Valley Ranch.

No other NFL team has that kind of travel schedule during TC. Hard to focus on the process when the process includes picking up every couple days or weeks and having to get settled quickly and get right back into it where you left off in a different location.

Sucks for me, Oxnard 15 minutes away and a balmy 75 degrees in August.

I'm sure Garrett is the reason for one location, but the contract is probably the only reason they chose SA over Oxnard. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys eventually agree to a long-term Thousand Oaks type contract with Oxnard.
