Blogging the Boys: Diggs or Bland Cowboys will have to choose

Give me Diggs, pls. His contract is not that bad and he's a goat. Yes Bland is a stud too but I think he already peaked.

Good question. I dont say it with a ton of confidence, but I would think you could get a 2nd for him, possibly a decent pick in that round too. I try to take emotion out of it and just go off of recent history. The closest comp I can find the last couple years is the L'jarious Sneed trade, and maybe Carlton Davis or Rasul Douglas deals. All of those got 3rd round picks plus another late pick. I would assume Bland still having a year left on his rookie deal would up his value a little bit from those guys though???

I'd probably take Bland over any of those guys, but he was hurt a good chunk of 2024 and wasnt the elite level guy he was in 2023.
Yeah, I'm taking Bland over that trio, respectfully. I had no idea what Bland could bring, but I have to agree with you, a 2nd possibly but a 3rd for sure.

If we are going to run the Eberflus scheme we should move on from both. The $ needs to go to the front 4. If you are constantly dropping 7 into coverage you can’t justify paying corners top dollar.

Yeah, it has to be Bland especially this year where Boys have an out somewhat w/Diggs' contract. Looks like GB is going to make the same decision and rumored to be letting go of Jaire Alexander due to him never staying healthy.

Yeah, I would want to see what bland does in 2025 before making any decisions

Easy choice for me - Bland stays Diggs goes. Per 2024 PPF:

Diggs - 56.6 overall
Bland - 70.1 overall

Diggs - 60.3 Coverage grade
Bland - 71.4 Coverage grade

I don't put a lot of weight into INT's as those can be as much a matter of luck than anything. But if one must talk about INT's, I think Bland has shown a far better upside as Diggs sells out and gets burned. Bland is more disciplined.

Bland is one of the most humble, down-to-earth, likable guys on the entire team. Absolutely awesome dude. I don't have any questions about him quitting his job after he wins the lottery.

And on the thread question, I've always been a Bland guy. I never would have re-signed Diggs in the first place.
Possibly true but once again, how are they going to be once they get the money

One thing about Bland’s awesome 2023, was that he was getting absolutely torched when he wasn’t intercepting passes.

I am not sure the Cowboys need to do anything with Diggs until 2027 or 2028 depending on how they structure Bland's next contract.

The first year of Bland's new deal will probably be CAP friendly - small salary + large sign on bonus. This would compliment Diggs' 2026 contract which currently has him at $19.75 million in 2026.

But this is why I would not restructure Dak in 2025. Take his $90 million CAP hit this year and next year his CAP number drops to $67 million. Still, high but more than $20 million less than this year. Then in 2026 they will have more room to sign Bland and keep Diggs, if his performance returns to his pro-bowl levels.

Regardless I don't think they need to waive Diggs until at least 2027.

In the meantime it might be a good idea to consider extending Bland now, although this carries some risk.

Hoping it’s neither. Diggs’ business decisions and Bland’s tendency to visit Dallas Baptist’s burn unit after a home game have me praying we take 2 CB’s soon. They both suck donkey baLL$ if they aren’t getting INT’s.

Yeah, we get ahead of ourselves sometimes. Let's let Diggs get healthy and then see how it goes. It's possible that both players' performance can fall off in Eberflus's zone-heavy scheme or maybe they will both shine. The sad thing is that we might have to sign a short-term vet because of Diggs' injury since there's the possibility he won't make it back in time for the start of the season. I think he and Overshown will both start the year on PUP.
As soon as Diggs is healthy, trade him.
