Fans for DL

Maryland was the #1 pik of the Cowboys only because??
We traded Lockhart, Francis, a first and second round pick to draft Maryland. That makes it worse not better.

You recall all the issues and first round picks we spent later for the two Smiths at LB and CB?

Russell Maryland was door B. Rocket Ismail was Jimmys door A but Ismail decided to take the big bucks from the Canadian Football league So we were kind of left flat footed unfortunately. Jimmy really wanted that speed!

His career in the NFL never equated to his CFL and Notre Dame days. If only...

Ismail was not worth the first overall either. It wasn't a particularly good draft but it underscored Jimmy's limitation to contribute to the college draft 3 years removed from the college game. Herman Moore was in that draft.

He zeroed in on UofM players when there were better players on the board. He did the same with James Francis and allowed the scouts to draft Emmitt when he was picked ahead of us.

Don’t follow that he did the same with Francis. Francis was from Baylor, no?

You're right. My point is he didn't know the college landscape anymore but rather gathered himself some pet cats that he liked. To his credit he would watch film unlike Jerry and his picks.

In the case of Maryland he lost his guy that he traded the farm for and settled for a UofM player he knew. When his pet cat was picked the year before in Francis he had nothing so he let the scouts pick and they picked Emmitt Smith.

Had Jimmy not picked Maryland, the scouts may have picked another HoF again. Jimmy wasn't with those two picks while Swann, Moore, Lyte and Turner were on the board. All positions we needed at DB, WR, and DL.

I remember as a kid it used to piss me off that both Swann who was with our recently departed division opponent Cardinals and Jimmie Jones a mid round picks would outplay Maryland. With Lockhart gone the LB play went in the toilet.

I did not like the pick then either.

They played different positions.

You understand we traded up for the Maryland pick in 91 right? That Lockhart was part of that deal?
Yes. Maryland wasn't worth that pick. He would've been fine as a late 1st as he was a very good NT for those teams. He was part of what made Casillas/Jimmie Jones/Lett so effective.

He would've been fine as a third round pick. He was a two down player. That is not what you were talking about. You said Lockhart played a different position. Do you understand now why Lockhart was mentioned?

Not Lockhart. The discussion point was Maryland vs Jimmie Jones. They played different positions. Sorry, you got lost.

Jimmie Jones came in for Maryland when he went out often lining up at the 1. They both were listed as DT on the roster and platooned the position.

Of course I got lost if you are thinking nonsense.

There's the little personal attack again!!! Sad dude!!!!!

Nonsense is thinking that the NT and UT positions are the same. Let me guess, you don't even know what that is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's common for teams to play two UT's on passing downs. Man, this is Football 101 stuff, so of course you're lost!!!!

Let us recall that the original post discussed Swann who played 5 in an 3-4 at first to eventually all over the line, Jones the rotational tackle who filled in for both starters, and Lockhart a MLB.

You chose Maryland's backup as the 'different position.' Okay.

Either way, do you have a point?

Taco
Trysten Hill
Mazi

These were our highest DL draft picks in a decade.
Our FO sucks.
And the eagles got Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis.
We are the poster child for bust finders on the defensive line if there's one out there we we'll find it and draft it
