Sturm/PFF: Osa contract projection

I don't think Golston is a viable 3-tech. He had a lot of his success this year as an LDE after Lawrence went down. When we drafted him, Quinn wanted him to add weight so he could play inside because he wasn't great as an edge rusher at end. Last year, we allowed him to drop back down some and play end more. I think he's a good base end who can move inside on passing downs in a rotation. If we're relying on him as a 3-tech, we're making a mistake.
Play for the bucks change your view of team value, presented. I don't judge on the basis of hero worshiped and then down grade for cost. Osa

Why not? Money will be added to cap by the NFL and current contracts were made to carry these kinds of load additions.

*(Maybe if they knew how to structure deals like other teams successful in free agency, they could make the money work.)
Because cap space is finite and we already blew a chunk of it on questionable deals.

According to spotrac.com, Osa Odighizuwa is projected to command a contract in the range of 3yr/$63 million, or $21 million annually.

Here is a list of other impact defensive tackles who are in the same range of average annual salary:

  • DeForest Buckner, Indianapolis ($23 million)
  • DaRon Payne, Washington ($22.5 million)
  • Dexter Lawrence, New York Giants ($21.875 million)
  • Kenny Clark, Green Bay ($21.33 million)
  • Javon Hargrave, San Francisco ($21 million)
  • Christian Barmore, New England ($20.875 million)

Osa’s $21 million per year projection is just an estimate, and the way the Cowboys do business will drive that price up higher before it’s all said and done.

What's the emphasis on stopping the run going forward?
"It's really about fundamentals. It's about fundamentals and playing your technique. Obviously, the better players you have, the better they are. So it's important to have that too, but it's about guys being in the right spot and being where they're supposed to be, and with the demeanor that they need to have.

 As if yodeling fans are the only respect for the tackle...

You know how yodeling started? In Germany, two across the street gossipers got in an argument and heated. One lady yelled across the street, 'you're an old lady.'

The other lady yelled back, you're an old lady too.'

Now do some football talk. Are Dallas safeties good?

I don't think he's as good as any of them

Even Hargrave who Osi was definitely better than this year

I still lean on Hargrave's work leading up to this season and in the lead up to signing his contract

Why talk football to a homer? waste of time

Nope, the market is overpriced. Just because that's the going rate doesn't mean he worth it, and he'll more than likely be paying for another team
The market price for an individual NFL player is what the ownership group willing to pay him the most says it is. It is not based solely on talent. And it isn’t based on the opinion of any fan.

Osa was stronger this season and with much of the rest of the good players not on the field.

You guys don't root for any Cowboy players but Parsons, Lamb, and a kicker. You guys predict failure for all else. Fact is, Osa's performance, which hasn't been shown in comparison here, was respected by all but you fans here.

This is the team view right now as it starts the growth traveling as a NFL team.

There's still a lot of work to be done when it comes to figuring out the pieces Adams and Schottenheimer will have to work with. That said, there are already some quality pieces in place in the Cowboys' offense.

"I don't know that we've completely gotten that far yet," Adams said. "We're working hard to evaluate what we have here, I think that there's a lot of nice pieces to work with and we'll continue to go down that road as we work through player acquisition."

"… It's both [scheme and personnel]. It's always both. You can run the same scheme with really good players, and it works really well, and run the same scheme with other guys, and it's not as good. But this is a player's game, so the talent level does matter, and I do believe we can be where you're supposed to be and have really good fundamentals to really help enhance the run game."

as long as we don't pay it
Try analysis on real growth. SF now or Dallas...smart guy?
Waste is not analyzing but only complaints and then insults.

Who cares for what you got? I have a little fun. Yea, waste the prime years for both Parsons and Lamb. Stay in a rebuild...:muttley:

Mr. 'footbll guy,' explain exactly how when you stand head up with a tackle who is five inches taller and outweighs you 75 pounds and defeat him. Not by going around his block.

He’s one of “our” guys so…

WORTH IT!!!!
Osa and DT Willams along with a high picked DT in the draft along with bringing Musa up to speed would upgrade the tackle position quite a bit.

As much as the Eagles would like to get Williams back, with the year Williams had he will be looking for a major contract, as he is projected to get $12 million annually right now.. Philadelphia could re-sign him, but he would take away from multiple other signings Philadelphia could make. Not to mention, behind Williams, the Eagles could feel confident in Moro Ojomo.

With the Cowboys, they would not pass up on the chance to sign a key player from their rival that they just watched win the Super Bowl. Dallas also has a need at defensive tackle as they were the fourth-worst when it came to stopping the run in 2024, leading to 137.1 yards per game.

Dallas doesn’t necessarily have the cap space right now to work with, but if they can restructure a few contracts, they should be able to create room. They need to strengthen the interior of the defensive line, and being able to sign someone like Williams, who has Super Bowl experience now, and is just entering the prime of his career, would be a great start towards the Cowboys’ retooling phase.

Williams is a 25-year-old stud who balled out in the final year of his rookie contract. He could command between $15 million and $20 million per season if he hits the open market.
