Sturm/PFF: Osa contract projection

Tyron was done. Should not have extended Martin as well.
I don't have a problem with letting Tyron go. I have a problem with the plan to replace him, having a later-first-round rookie who would be switching sides be Option A. That is how you fail. Players should earn starting spots, not be given them.

I think $23 million is the franchise tag; $20 million is the transition tag
honestly I do not think he is worth either
Worth is relative. We have no starting DTs besides Mazi. $20 million is the going rate, so pay him that for one season and try to draft his replacement. The only other option, at least for this front office, is to bring in some scrub as a fill-in and draft his replacement, knowing that you not only absolutely have to hit on that player, but do it immediately his rookie year, even though most rookie DTs don't put up top numbers as a rookie.

Most likely, this front office will give him a four-year deal at market value. I'm just saying what I would do. If we were going to go after someone like Milton Williams if we let Osa walk in free agency, then I'd be good with that, but I absolutely do not expect that to happen.

It's easy to say just draft his replacement, but 1) we've seen that first-round picks for DL don't always work out and 2) the draft may not fall in such a way that DT is the best option when we pick (we can try trading down, but you have to have a partner).

I just do not think we should pay that much money; but if we are going to keep him for a year then OK. Its only a one year charge. We HAVE to restock the D line; SHOULD be our #1 offseason priority but sadly I doubt it will

It's his value. We either pay it or we pay someone else it. We should not rely on the draft to fill positions of need. We should rely on the draft to create competition at those positions and hopefully make them better.

Osa was one of the top pressure DTs last year. That's not easy to replace. We should make sure we have it replaced and have bettered the position before letting him go. Again, I think someone like Milton Williams offers similar production, but while we can transition/franchise tag Odighizuwa, we'd have to give Williams a four-year deal and beat the Eagles in money as well, and I'm not sure Williams is what we ultimately want at the position either. We need to find a stud, and our best bet for that is through the draft, but we can't just rely on it.

I think Odighizuwa and the draft make the most sense, but my fear at 3-tech is they will give Osa a long-term deal and ignore the position early in the draft. I'd prefer we get someone like Nolen in the first, tag Odighizuwa and draft another DT in the third and then let that rotation sort out and let Osa walk next year if the young guys look like they can handle it.

'Fool's gold,' we'll just see what is paid for his services and how much mileage are you going to get on the backs of two drafted 'rooks.' Get real with a new coaching staff now.

Sounds like real rocket science now...
By your logic Fowler got 10 sacks for Washington so he should get 40m a year.

Only idiot teams will consider paying Osa 20m a year. Not smart resource allocation.

Jerry never has any plans. Accept 4 TE's waiting patiently to play.

I don't go that far. I believe they have a plan, but it has everything to do with paying only certain of their FAs top dollar, filling in for those who leave with cheap veterans and drafting well. Occasionally, they throw in a trade for a veteran in decline who won't cost them much. Rarely, they make a trade for a high-value veterans, but that's only in desperation (see Amari Cooper).

It might not be a good plan, but that is the pattern we've seen develop.

No, that was your own snap shot not based upon a valid picture that presents team related value. Not the negotiation picture with real live agents.

Cowboys free agency: Osa Odighizuwa projected to earn over $21M per year

The question no where is if he is good and fits Dallas. The question is how does the price affect the complete rebuild of the defensive line.

He probably walks.

Cap $$$ in 2025 is tight.

Next man up.

I could see them using a 3rd on a DT.

Love the kid......he deserves it but not here unless we get a high-level run defender also. Bench Mazi .....rotational

I was reading 4 years /21 mils. I thought, well ok. Thats a nice contract for a guy like Osa.

Then i saw that "per anno".

LOL. You can draft a better replacement in the lower 3rd round.

Well "you" doesnt mean us. We need a first rounder for that. And still have a 70% chance to miss.

Anyways.... BYE!
