Sturm/PFF: Osa contract projection

Context ..........PFF grades and stats
Overall grade.....68.1, ranking 38th of 219 DI
Pass rush grade...78.5 11th of 219 DI
Run defense grade 50.8 116th of 219 DI

15 solo tackles ..........15th of 219 DI
7 sacks ....................12th of 219 DI
5 assist tackles.........110th of 219 DI
39 hurries ...................5th of 219 DI
14 hits..........................4th of 219 DI
60 pressures ...............3rd of 219 DI
859 snaps ...................2nd of 219 DI
Don’t feel like looking up the rest of the stats, but I can tell you with 100% certainty that Osa didn’t have 7 sacks.

21 mil a year for Osa? Naw....I like him but he's not 21 mil a year good maybe 5 mil
5 million a year is probably way cheap for Osa. But 10-13 probably seems like an ideal range. At 21 million, we could probably sign Lewis, a replacement dt, and an additional player.

Love the kid......he deserves it but not here unless we get a high-level run defender also. Bench Mazi .....rotational

Another example of the Jones messing things up and not signing a player early. They could have had him for much cheaper if you signed him last summer.

You are right .....it's 4.5 sacks 2024
Not sure where PFF is getting 7 (lol)

I try to see what Milton Williams can give me at 3T with the ability to finally start.

Our fans are the old man in the buffet line going, "$20? I ain't paying $20 for this crap! It used to cost $5." Then, he's stuffing rolls in his pocket because of the price.

according to those stats he played a lot of snaps so he is not going to get much more then what he has shown at best. He is not a great run defender; mediocre there. So he is not a three down guy if you want a top D

Looking around, it seems the most anyone things Parsons will get is around $35 million a year.
Unless Jethro waits until after next season and he does even better which is possible. If he were to push for the NFL sack record next year; say get near 20, then I could see his price pushing 40+Million.

any way you look at it, OSA is not worth $21 million if Micah is only getting 30-35

If OSA is projected in the $21-22M range per I see Jerry hitting him with the franchise tag for roughly $23M.
I'd prefer we give him the non-exclusive tag, which should be around $19 million for DTs. We don't have a replacement, and there's no guarantee that who we get in the draft based on how the draft falls is going to be good enough. So sign him for this year and try to draft his replacement. It is possible some other team will offer him a contract under that tag, but then we can see his true market value and decide whether to match it.

I don't prefer that we give him a big four-year deal because that almost guarantees that we will do nothing else at the position. The front office will consider it done and only add a DT or two late in this draft.

Cowboys (per Cap Boy) won't see Osa as a key core must re-sign vet ... they won't see him as a criitcal Parsons, Diggs Bland core player - so they won't go " all in" to re-sign Osa.

they will let him walk, depend upon a comp pick, and swing/miss on another 3 tech draftee.. or a band-aid cheap vet DT.

I say no, not for that price. I would give him something in the $16 to $17 million range and choke at it.

If I was going to pay a DT $21.5 million it would be Milton Williams, and even that would make me hesitate.
