Sturm/PFF: Osa contract projection

I'd say yes, because if the way to avoid a "rebuild" of what is already a really mediocre DL is to have to overpay for a good, not great DT, then yeah, you take the rebuild.

I am struggling to understand why some of you can't get this.
You merely ignore applied principals that are not used in following team building. You want a Hollywood ending. I watch and enjoy. No stupidity in that. Explain away in one's own name calling as you were. So?

Tread carefully.

I’m not going to accept your “cry baby” insults and name-calling.

If you’re incapable of having a grown up conversation, you need to move on.
Principals of description were involved and your name was NOT involved. Ban me when bias is not mine, I disagree in YOUR football focus. That describes instead real football and repeatable principals. That is management discipline, not attitude. That can be understood by any one.

I'd prefer we give him the non-exclusive tag, which should be around $19 million for DTs. We don't have a replacement, and there's no guarantee that who we get in the draft based on how the draft falls is going to be good enough. So sign him for this year and try to draft his replacement. It is possible some other team will offer him a contract under that tag, but then we can see his true market value and decide whether to match it.

I don't prefer that we give him a big four-year deal because that almost guarantees that we will do nothing else at the position. The front office will consider it done and only add a DT or two late in this draft.
The tag sounds good. They should do that or let him walk. They for sure need to draft 2 dtackles and sign Nick Bolton in free agency.

Your posts are gibberish. You’re incapable of forming cogent arguments in English and I’m tired of wasting time trying to have an intelligent discussion.

At the end of the day, GM Jethro does not value the position.

Our GM values flash. Its Aaron Donald or meh. They have burned legitimate picks at the position the last few years though. The bigger problem is we missed. We can't keep being a farm team for our rivals. If we need to address any position in FA it's DT.

Go to hell with a privileged insult ,,, intended. Obey YOUR own rules.

he earned a payday. good luck to him, but the payday shouldn't be in Dallas.

while DT is a priority, the price he will command is more than Dallas should spend.

Step up to the plate on gibberish and intelligence when you win a Congressional Appointment to an Academy. Now show your having played at least on two University Level teams in the college level. Air Force Academy against Tennessee in the Sugar Bowl and Texas A&I as National Champs in NAIA. I followed the departure of Eugene Upshaw and played alongside 6 future Pro Bowlers from the Javelinas....speak on up.

Considering how they haven't had much success drafting DT under normal cap numbers he might be worth keeping.

Funny enough, they've been decent at getting at least depth/rotation guys in the draft. M. Collins and Gallimore are still in the NFL.
Even that NT John Ridgeway has shown he is a lower end NFL nose tackle.

It's just the guys they've reached on like Hill that have been busts.

I get Osa has the advanced stats and pressures, but I really can't recall many impact plays he had.
Pressures is such an odd stat at times cause a pressure can mean they either forced a bad pass or the QB had to step up/ roll out and still completed a pass, or Osa simply was within X amount of yards on a QB that was still able to plant his feet and throw a perfect pass.

If Osa wasn't like Almost Anthony Spencer, got more sacks, and was more impactful vs the run, sure, give him 21+mil AAV. But I don't see it.

I watched Zach Sieler and the Wilkins duo 2 years ago.
Wilkins was overpaid, but I thought he was worth 20+mil.
Sieler is on a steal of a contract.

He is already team integrated and strong on the youth side, also.

Realistically, in Jerry's world it will get worse. We will let Osa walk, sign another 3 -1 year DT's that are 30+ and maybe draft 1, that will take time to develop.

This part of the unknown picture involved in team dynamics:

For the third time in as many years, there will be a new defensive coordinator in Dallas, as Matt Eberflus returns to take on the role following a one-year reunion with Mike Zimmer, who returned following Dan Quinn's decision to depart for the Washington Commanders.

That's three coordinators in Parsons' four seasons in the NFL, and he has still produced no fewer than 12 sacks in a single season, despite missing four games due to a high ankle sprain in 2024...

"I wanna get a little stronger," he said. "I get a little more powerful. There are some things that I wanna work on that I'm implementing into my offseason program. I always try to ask some new things, so I'm gonna try to bring back a little bit more power."

I’d make an offer to Bears DT Chris Williams. And given the Chicago connections, that’s exactly what I expect the Cowboys will do.

He’s an ascending undrafted player coming off of his best season last year. They identified him and traded for him from Cleveland.

Take a look at Williams’ 2024 numbers - in 0 starts - and compare them to Osa’s 17 starts.

Yeah, I can easily let him get paid elsewhere.

What kind of pyschobabble is this?

It's not that hard. The Cowboys have finite resource to spend on a roster each year. They have to make a determination whether to spend some of those resources on Player A or not. They have to weigh the cost to sign that player with the overall replacement cost of a similar player. If a team makes the mistake of signing a player for more money than he is worth, that hurts the overall performance of the team because you have wasted resources tied into a player that isn't living up to the level of play you need for that kind of money spent.

Weighing whether a player is worth X or Y amount of dollars is precisely an applied principal for team building. It's literally the job description for every GM in the NFL. LOL.

...save the money and use it to get Garrett. Will have Parsons, Kneeland, Garrett, Mazi,Parsons and hopefully Overshown healthy.;

That’s certainly what I was thinking.

In fact, I’d try to get the two of them together to hammer out how this could work and what each could make to have it still be capable of manageable.

(Avoiding tampering of course! ;))

21 mil a year for Osa? Naw....I like him but he's not 21 mil a year good maybe 5 mil
I’d bet on him getting more than 21. He’s very effective in the passing game. Just not so much in run game. He’d be worth it if Mazi wasn’t a bust

Not for that much, pass. Still too inconsistent. Jerry probably thinks he is the next DLaw. For what that is worth.
He’s no Dlaw. Dlaw is really good in the run game. Osa is really good in the passing game. Drafting a bust like Mazi makes it hard to spend that much on a guy that’s not better against the run
