The mistake of putting everything on the skill position players

Ferguson regressed last year, Schoonmaker hasn't produced much, Spann-Ford hasn't played much and Fant is just a backup.

Numbers-wise, no, they're not short, speaking of proven quality TEs at this point.
If we take a TE before the 5th round, we are beyond stupid.

It’s a fair point Choc but just because we’ve missed on some of those picks doesn’t mean we should stop trying.
the flaw in this is marketing and I klnow we speak on this all the time but its real, Jerry DOES let marketing dictate the roster..its the only way to explain his stubborness on rebuilding a core...even when speaking of trench players..how do you not get ahead of a Tyron Smith/ Zack Martin cliff and get picks from it...

It’s really about sticking to the old cliche…..build from the outside in.

That’s how you become “eons ahead” of everyone else in ratings and merchandise. Yep, that’s what the fans want to hear.

The trenches? Jerry will tell you that’s why he pays the coaches, although he doesn’t feel as if he should have to.

I'd be considering a trade. Not saying there's much the Cowboys can do, but just noting TE isn't well stocked with a top one, no Kelce, etc. on the roster.

There are multiple needs for the team, that's for sure...

There's only one Kelce in the NFL, and frankly only 2-3 TE's even close to that league. Fergie is a very good TE. It is not a need.

59 catches for 494 yds and ZERO tds doesn't indicate a "very good" TE. There were 6 TEs with more yards than Ferguson, 4 with 5 or more TDs and 6 with more receptions.

I just wouldn't want to count on Ferguson to bounce back in 2025, would try to hedge my bet with another TE.

But that's me, I'm sure others will pin their hopes on him improving, or one of the other ones stepping up, a valid plan, just not what I'd like to see.

TE is so far down on the list that we're better off using the ones we have and fixing the real problems.

It can.

Only in rounds 4-7.

Hold it.......................so Fergie is the 6th best TE in the NFL and you think he's a problem? I'm just not seeing it.

I probably don't need to re-emphasize who the real stars of the SB were but I will anyway. The egirls (who I hate) have made it crystal clear what their cornerstones are on their team that they rely on MOST: Their trench players - OL and front 7 on D. They are hands down the league’s best. They had 6 ALL PROS this year and 4 of them were either OL, DL or LBs.

In fact if anyone really studies what Philly’s most simplified formula for winning is look no further than guys like DT Jalen Carter, LG Landon Dickerson, RT Lane Johnson, LT Jordan Mailata, LB Zack Baun, and NT Jordan Davis. Those guys dominate the LOS and make it much easier for Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and AJ Brown to make plays. Two of the three skill position guys - Barkley and Brown - were both FA acquisitions, not draft picks.

As we begin to prepare for the off-season with FA and the draft, I hope this front office can once and for all learn the real cornerstones we need aren’t just WRs, RBs and QBs. It’s like Jerry still thinks the only reason we were so dominant in the 90s was because of “The Triplets”. Sure that helped to have Troy, Emmitt and Michael but without Mark Tunei, Nate Newton, Erik Williams, and Charles Hailey, the Cowboys don’t win 3 SBs in the 90s.

I know we need a RB, and second WR, but honestly IMO, we need to use a lot of early draft capital acquiring some beasts. Getting good RBs and WRs are way easier than top tier trench players.

I hope our FO can finally learn triplets are only as good as the people who block and tackle in support of them.
Duh! Cowboys 1st pick ever was a DT, and select a DE no.1 overall. Jimmy drafted a DT no.1 over all and only selected Aikman in 1st round with ever other no.1 pick on defense.

Jerry Jones is not Dallas Cowboys personnel history but ArlingtonJones boys misery.

I didn't say he's a problem, only that I wouldn't count on him due to the poor year last year, in which at the beginning of this past season he was expected to make a big jump in production.

And I believe the prevailing view is that you always want to improve where you can, right? It's a fact his production from 2023 to 2024 dropped off, he may "right the ship" in 2025 and he might not, I'm not banking on his returning to form or even getting better, though certainly I'd like him to. I had him on a couple of my fantasy teams early in the year, but you can bet your bottom dollar I'm not drafting him until later this year, if at all.

And I didn't say he was the 6th best tight end, only that there were at least 6 with better years. And I also didn't note other TEs that were close to his stats. Ranking players with numbers is a fool's errand, just too many variables.

Hold it. That's what you were doing!!!

What's funny is that in a thread about us putting too much emphasis on the skill positions, you want to take a skill position early!!! You can't make this stuff up!!!!

If we keep on drafting skill position players early, we are never going anywhere, that is a fact. If we are dumb enough to take a TE in the 2nd w/ huge glaring needs at DT, DE, LB, OL, and RB, then we deserve to lose. You want to throw a 5th at one? Sure, whatever, that's fine. We can get Fergie part deux!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ferguson slipped this year no doubt about that: injuries played a part but not all of it.

HOWEVER
just like those that want to give up on Guyton after one bad year giving up on Ferguson for one poor year is DUMB

How about the mistake of thinking GM Jethro is going to build a Super Bowl team?

Plus, taking a TE before the 5th hinders what we need to do. It would be incredibly stupid.

You are right who needs a stud TE. I suggest you watch film on Warren. I would take Jeanty if he is there. Plenty of Dline in the draft. Can get dline help in free agency or later in the draft. Jeanty and Rico would be a good one two punch.
