What about letting Steele and Guyton battle it out for the starting RT spot?

So who plays LT or LG if Smith goes back to LT?
What happens to the player that does not start?

I know what you are saying. Not a bad idea. But it would be best to make Steele a June 1st cut. Safe cap space.
Let Guyton play RG, and draft an other LT or LG.

However, what happens if Martin does not return. Now they need a RG as well. Unless you really think Hoffman is the answer.
That is a lot of players moving around as well as needing new players.

I see them sticking to what they have, and see if the new scheme and coaches will improve it.
That would be insane. Steele's 2025 salary guarantees in a few weeks. Based off of what you saw last year you think this team can afford to cut him right now before seeing how much improvement some of the young guys have? Guyton to OG would be horrible IMO. His chance to be a good NFL OL is his athleticism. I think that means he is an OT or nothing.

Your expectations for him as a rookie were too high.

On draft day we knew he needed work, and it wouldn't all be fixed his rookie year.
No I knew he was raw. Just thought he might be a bit better. I think he's a RT fit. Steele looks like he regressed

If he is on the roster after 3/16 Steele's money becomes guaranteed. If that happens I'm 99% sure he will be handed the starting gig. Honestly if there is going to be more of a focus on the run game Steele isnt a horrible option. Would I like to see the position upgraded? Yes. Was Steele nearly as bad as people want to make him out to be? No. I think Steele is closer to league average than people think. Guyton was significantly worse in 2024, and I think the real battle should be between him and Richards for the LT spot if they keep Smith at G.
This ^

How can anyone have watched this team last year and come away thinking Steele was our problem on the OL. Was he great? Hell no, but Guyton was horrible and made Steele look like an All Pro. The idea of handing him anything right now is nuts. I'm all for moving on from Steele in 2026 if the young guys develop and/or we bring in other players but not right now. I happen to like our young guys and I think Guyton will develop (Heck we all knew the day he was drafted he wasn't ready to play in the NFL), I'm just not betting the season on it. We need to add OL to this roster, not get rid of one of our top 5

I guess I should have been more specific. I meant in that scenario as if you take one or the other.
Obvious the best solution is keep them both. And see how Steele improves 2 years after his surgery. And with the new schemes and coaching staff.
Less moving parts that way as well.

Agreed. Hes not perfect, but MM was a solid HC. I think he gets dumped on so much this offseason just because the coaching change is the main reason for optimism people have as its unlikely Jerry starts seriously churning the roster.
Solid. Good word to describe him. He is by far the best HC we've had since Tuna.

He wasn't hired to do a "decent" job. And all the blunders from player management to time management to bad play calling to having the team wildly unprepared in big games is what's driving that hate. That's not weird, it's expected. In Dallas or anywhere.
Ah, expectations too high. That explains it, well done.

I knew what MM was before he came here, and he was as expected. Decent middle of the pack HC. So, from what you're telling me, people expected greatness from him? Sorry, I do find that weird. Guess I thought everyone knew what he was. Happens.

Hard to say where he goes from here???

He gets better. It's that simple.
That is the hope and plan. However, I disagree w/ you that it's simple. Way too many factors involved. The biggest question is, why wasn't he better? Yes, I know he was raw, but why didn't he improve more during the season? Exactly what is holding him back? No, I don't think it's simple at all.

Coaching matters in this league. In here, we have railed on the coaching staff and OL coach a long time and have been screaming for him to be replaced.

I have no idea why the coaches weren't able to get Guyton playing better as the season wore on. But I suspect it starts with those coaches.

My faith in the new coaches far far exceeds last years coaches that are now thankfully gone. The opportunity for them to work with Guyton and the rest of the OL this off season will make a difference next year.

Steele was in the top 35 percent run blocking for tackles last year according to pff
He isn’t nearly as bad as fans in here think
His pass blocking improved as the season went on…indicating he may be getting back to form after the surgery
with the amount of players needed ki would go with Stelle ib 2025

Martin should not be considered in any plans. He is no longer a starter.

They definitely need a RG. But I think we have guys who can fill that role.
Martin has retired. He's out of the picture, at this point. We can forget chances of seeing him.

If you plan to move Guyton to the right side, you cut Steele because you cannot pay that salary on a backup.
