I hate it here.

It appears to be the new place for dumb people to congregate.

Matt Stafford is 32 years old and has NEVER WON A PLAYOFF GAME.
But he's cheap right? NOOOO. His cap hit for the next 2 seasons were he not cut or traded is 59M.

I'd rather move up in the draft for Tua or Herbert..

Sign a vet and play the Rookie when they are ready.

Give me the lottery ticket over a guy that is having Dak like success in the post season.

Why would Detroit get rid of Stafford? Honestly. The QB is the one thing that hasn’t been holding that franchise back and they are supposed to get rid of him to draft an injured college QB?

Stafford would thrive here. But Detroit isn't going to let go of the best QB they've had in 50 years.

You’re trading a .500 QB for a losing quarterback, and that’s your upgrade?
Just a couple of questions here:

-----Do you think the organization(Detroit) has anything to do with that winning percentage of Stafford's?

-----Who is the .500 QB that you are referencing? (Couldn't be Dak because his career record does not match that number)

confusing post.

Because he is owed a lot of money and they aren't winning with him. 10M roster bonuses are hard to eat on guys 32 years old.

He is playing at a league average level but has won only 9 games in 2 years.
The injury last year was back related which as we all know with Romo doesn't magically improve as you age and torque your body to throw a football. .

Stafford at this point is a lesser player than Dak with zero upside and a very large chance to fail with injury.

I could very much see him move to the coast and play for the Chargers. Picking 6 they are just outside of year 1 franchise QB range imho. They could grab a vet like Stafford and use him as a stopgap.
Cost to San Diego should be reasonable for a 32 year old coming off back injury. Draft a kid like Herbert or Love who is raw as rain but athletic, but be patient and start Stafford.

Everyone to his own opinion, but what I don't get is why some other team would give us 2 first round picks for Dak, but we would get Stafford for just 1 first round pick. Does that mean most teams think Dak is better than Stafford? Otherwise, why wouldn't they go get Stafford for 1 pick instead of 2 for Dak.

Also, if Detroit wants to draft Tua, Stafford then isn't worth a #1 pick....get him cheaper.

Here's what Bob Sturm says about trading for Stafford...

"I am not going to suggest a trade of a franchise-tagged Dak Prescott to Detroit for a beaten-up Matthew Stafford because he is from Highland Park and his back may not be severely compromised even though he missed the last two months with a severely compromised back."

Yes, lets get another QB from Broke Back Mountain that missed 8 games and had a record of 3-4-1. How did the work for Romo coming from Broke Back Mountain?. Stafford overall record is 69-79-1.

Here are the reasons from every angle.

Why would Dallas do it?
Stafford has 3 years left on his contract.
Much better cap situation than what Dak will be.
Stafford is better than Dak and would crush in our offense
Just turned 32 and would easily fulfill his contract and maybe another few years.
Could end up gaining a 1st rd pick (will explain later)

Why would Det do it?
They are in place to get Tua if they choose
They are rebuilding
They could add an extra 1st rd pick. Maybe Tua and Fulton instead of Okuda
By trading Stafford and drafting Tua the staff buys some time to rebuild and likely can keep their jobs for a few years.

Why would Stafford go along with it?
He's a local kid and grew up a Cowboys fan
He has potential HOF numbers but likely wouldn't get in unless he gets a chance to win some big games.
Better talent around him.
He's getting older and our OL could prolong his career.
His kids get to be around the grandparents.
The best cancer treatment center in the country is in Tex(his wife has a brain tumor)

How would it go down?

Tag Dak with the non exclusive tag. New England or New Orleans(if Brees retires)or another team picking late decides he is worth giving up 2 1sts for him.

We trade the newly acquired 2020 1st rd pick to Det for Stafford. We still have pick 17 and gain an extra 2021 1st rd pick. We save cap space and gain a Qb built to win now. Reports are that he is fully recovered from injury and by sitting out the season he avoided any long term damage.
Yikes.

I try to appreciate all opinions here but these "trade for ______ " threads using capital we probably will need..

Reminds me of the opening of a new Star Wars movie..

"In a galaxy far far away and long long ago"..

we traded for Stafford who lead the Rebels to victory..

Right.

Sounds fun. Send the script to Obe-Whan Jerrah. He needs reading material for the head.

Here is a more realistic scenario..

Let's see what happens to Andrew Luck.

He should be running out of money soon and he will need a rich daddy soon.

If he wanted to return and his shoulder works..

he is my choice for our savior.

Savey?

PS-That part about the wife's illness was too much info. You guys that use a tsunami of info to make a point are just way over the top. Yikes.

That’s all great, If the OP believes what you do about Stafford then getting rid of Dak for Stafford makes zero sense, but that’s what the OP
Is proposing.

Between the ears? Stafford clearly has a higher developed football acumen than Dakota so I wont mention that Stafford scored a 38 on the Wonderlic while Dakota scored a whopping 25. Mo Claiborne says Wonderlic scores are meaningless at the QB position
Garrett got a 36 and Ryan Fitzpatrick got a 47. Wonderlic is not a IQ test. Stop it. What’s your point?
