I meant he played at well below QB average salary and we did not win- a little comprehension helps a lot

We were talking about pay not performance!
Next time add the word salary. Not just QB average.

This front office gave the players Jason Garrett as HC for almost 10 years

The next CBA is irrelevent. Dak may be riding a bench in the CFL or XFL by then.

Exactly what I was thinking. I think the money is close enough but Dak wants a 3 year deal. So I see a 4 year (opt out at 3) 140 million. Arguing now over the guaranteed. Maybe 120 guaranteed and 60 up front. Will make him the biggest paid for a minute until mahomes is paid.

In other words, they are close, it's probably just a matter of both bending a little. I'm thinking the numbers will be 5 years, $37M APY with voidable options/incentives of the last two years. For example, Cowboys making the NFCCG two of the first three years or one Super Bowl makes Dak a FA after the fourth year. Honestly, this is not a bad thing.....

Players with little value cannot bully the front office. We have had players who wanted more than we were willing to pay before, and the front office told them to test the market and come back if they found Dallas was being fair. When the front office won’t allow a player to test the market, it’s because they already know or believe there are teams that will value the players and pay them a huge number. The front office is trying to get the best deal they can. The agent is trying to get the best deal he can. This is how it works.

The talk of other QBs and strategies is just stupid. The front office doesn’t put the team and themselves through a year of this garbage if they aren’t sold on the player. A deal will get done unless Dak hates Dallas and wants out, and even them he wouldn’t go through this either...he’d simply ask for a trade. The deal will get done. The salary cap is a real thing, but Dallas is in a position to do whatever they want to do. The cap isn’t going to cost them players. Players will be allowed to walk only because the front office doesn’t equate their value with their $ sign. Fans need to let go of the cap fear and preoccupation with the $. It’s not your money, and it will not impact our star players.

I’m expecting some sort of escalator clauses that allow Dak to make more based both on incentives and his percentage as the cap rises.

So is dak’s management looking at the zeke and tank deals and how they handle it and planning to do the same. Will we see the front office standing their ground this time and pushing back.

zeke you could say was the best rb in the league.
Lawrence you could make a case for top 3 at his position.
But dak? Not close at this point. And to want $40 million. $5 million more per year than any other qb is ridiculous.

The problem is they are letting the market set their standard for paying guys and not playoff success..

In Zeke's case he has every right to seek top money. I just hate that the Rams screwed up the RB market and stupid teams like the Jets & Cowboys followed their lead.

In Dak's case he doesn't deserve the money he is asking for.

If you just follow the market only, especially for mediocre guys like Dak, and pay them whatever then what is the incentive to try and win a championship if you will get paid anyways?
After the CBA you will see QBs crack the 50 million. We could have signed Dak for a long term deal 2 years ago for 30 or maybe 32 at most. He has played at a high enough level to be a starter and JJ is on board with him being a franchise QB. Everything else is just reporters stirring the pot. He will be signed and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s already agreed on but JJ will wait to steal the thunder around draft time or maybe combine.
Keep an eye on Mahomes deal......I said before, his deal could set off a market correction at the position for other QB deals following his. In other words, coz of his credential ( postseason records including SB), his deal could be the ceiling for the QB market for the next 3-4 years.

The bottom line on this is Stephen Jones negotiates deals on behalf of Jerry and he's not very good. He's waited on several deals instead of signing individuals before comparable players on other teams get their deals. Zach Martin and Demarcus Lawrence are examples of deals that should've been done a year or two earlier and it would have saved us so much money.

When you're spending someone else's money you don't value it the same. It's his daddy's money.

Deals usually get done when Jerry comes in and cleans up the mess and damage Stephen causes during negotiations. Stephen's blockhead deserves alot of the blame. I never question a player for maximizing their earning potential.

owners have a distinct advantage in that there is no board of directors to whom they answer. no hostile takeovers to worry about. no stock values declining. they have done an admirable job or positioning themselves to make a great deal of money whether their teams are successful or not. now the players, slowly, inexorably, are chipping away at the platinum armor as they learn how to play the game better. the world of professional sports is unique in that ownership needs the players. Steppenwolf's the monster.

It's not bullying its negotiations and it's the only way for the players to not get screwed like everything else in this league. Plus hes come out himself and say he isnt asking for 40. Only reason he turned down 33 mil was because of the guaranteed amount

Stephen's been cleaning up jerry's mess since he full took over the cap issues and contracts. he's absolutely one of the best in the business. and as for it being daddy's money, where do you think the money goes when jerry finally passes on? the cowboys will be a jones family business for a long time.

This dynamic where fans root for billionaire owners who are guaranteed to continue to make millions and millions of revenue each year, as opposed to millionaire athletes who actually perform on the field, and have a very short window to earn money, has always confused me.

The idea that a player is "bullying" a front office is ridiculous.

Do I wish Dak would sign for a reasonable contract allowing the Cowboys to build a deeper, better team around him? Absolutely. I also am a grown up and understand that this is one of a very few times Dak will have the leverage to demand as much money as possible for himself, his family, and their future.
