I didn't forget, but that contract was signed during the season not offseason. Romo was having a great year in 2007 and his play was only getting better, and that team was headed for the playoffs like the year before with Parcells. Dak is coming off an 8-8 season with questions still regarding his mechanics and ball placement...not good. Dak's best year was in 2016 as a rookie when the team went 13-3 and he only threw 4 INT's. Can another rookie start in 2020 and lead the Cowboys to a season like 2016 with an easier schedule...no you say?...and why not? What did Dak do at Miss St. that a 1st, 2nd or even 3rd round QB in the 2020 draft can't do? If Dak was a once in a lifetime pick...lightning in a bottle type player or whatever...then where did this lightning go?

Does Jerry have to give Dak a 200M contract to bring this lightning back?

I'm just asking for a friend....

Get a grip dude THE COWBOYS ARE A TEAM COMING OFF AN 8-8 SEASON WITH A LOT OF QUESTIONS . Like why did we lead the league in DROPPED BALLS, MISSED FGS and horrendous special teams that gave us the worst field position . Why did 90% of the team give up on their coach

Why did we trade away a top pick to Miami because he couldnt get along with a washed up coach thats gone now and was responsible for drafting another bust in Trystan Hill for a defense that cant get a TO if its life depended on it . Why did the 2 most promising LBs in the NFL completely fall of the map and underachieve

Dak , Collins and Jeff Heath were the only players that looked like they were trying in the end. Dak was a bright spot in this mud puddle . Zeke was tapping out ,Cooper was tapping out . The whole freakin receiving corps tapped out in the Eagles game DROPPING BALLS THAT WERE RIGHT IN THEIR HANDS Witten , Cooper Cobb and Gallup . GALLUPS DROPPED TD COST US A TRIP TO THE PLAYOFFS .

ANSWER ALL THESE QUESTIONS AND GET BACK TO ME !!!

Until you have some rock solid proof that " 90% of the team give up on their coach" it's just your opinion and that and $3 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

And the only trade I recall with the dolphins was a 6th round pick for Quinn who led the Cowboys in sacks last season. Your little rant about that doesn't make sense.

You're forgetting Romo's first big contract in October of 2007, halfway through the 2007 season and barely a full year with Romo as a starting QB since the midway season point of 2006. It didn't hurt the team then. The problem with his second big contract in 2013 is that the whole Oline was decimated and in need of being fixed with better Olinemen, which it started to with the drafting of Tyron Smith, followed by Martin and Frederick. Big contracts for your stud QB can work if you draft well and smartly in each draft. The most important piece to any successful team is their QB, not their RB or some other player. That's where Jerry messed up recently.

If I could just expand on that a bit AC giving Romo that contract put this team behind the 8 ball . Why would you give an old QB with a bad back who couldnt even practice on Wednesdays a contract like that . He was a time bomb and it was time to break down and use a 1st round pick for a QB

But no we did zero preparation for the end of Romos career other than draft Dak as a complete afterthought because we couldnt get any of the guys we really wanted that by the way couldnt even make it in the NFL. Now we are to stupid to realize our good fortune and are dragging or feet to sign a guy who has been the absolute model of availability and durability not missing a singe game since being given the job

Anyone with a keen eye (and experience) for football would have noticed...easily.

More than rock solid all you had to do was watch the games down the stretch compared to the year before . Zero effort this year maximum effort the year before and if that is not enough the man got replaced . If the players were playing for him we would have easily made the playoffs and his contract would have been renewed

I see, with all your experience from your couch you have sharpened and honed you mind reading skills. Is there a special trick or something that you do that you can tell us all so we all can develop that skill?

I see you have the same mind reading skill that America's Cowboy has. One of you have to tell us all how you develop that skill so we all can have it.

Yes. Go practice extremely hard, study the game, go not only play but star playing the game, call plays in the huddle while proving your understanding of the game, get praised/rewarded for doing it, etc.

Oops, way too late for you. Maybe in another lifetime?

So you're not going to tell us your trick to reading minds? OK, you're really not that good at it anyways.

Football player acquisition and drafting is a damned if you do and don't proposition exacerbated by free agency and the collective bargaining agreement. We also forget that in many instances there are 31 other teams in the mix of pursuing free agents and college prospects in which draft position is a factor as well. Retaining a star running back by rewarding them with a hefty long term contract also depends how your team sits talent and position wise. It seems star receivers and pass rushers cost as much as running backs even some starting quarterbacks these days.

I think commensurate compensation for Dak Prescott would be not to exceed $ 35 million per year also factoring in the endorsements playing for arguably the most visible team in the NFL. Optionally, $ 33 million a year plus significant incentives if he reaches mutually agreed seasonal and post-seasonal performance objectives relative to acceptable supporting cast performance on offense, defense and possibly special teams. Just my thoughts and I do like your overall perspective.
