hey - the man did what he wanted to do. more power to him.

but it did prove he did NOT want to play football.

Exactly. And he did everything he could to not show up and not out the work in either. This was as much about him being lazy as it was about any 'stand' about weed. It's very well documented and anyone who 'doesn't know' is either ignorant of the facts or practicing willful ignorance because they refuse to acknowledge it.

The Cowboys were beyond patient with this clown.

Why should I point the finger at myself? Are you that emotionally juvenile? I have no issue with Irving smoking pot, medicinally or otherwise. I believe he is not a reliable player and he strung the team along at times only playing in 10 games the last 2 seasons. He signed up to play football under NFL/team contract (as other players) with a no weed smoking restriction. That is my perspective. And if you want to salute Irving or fist pump in solidarity with him, enjoy, and don't pull any tendons.
Another narrow minded person exposing themself as a hypocrite. I salute any man for standing up for what is right. Marijuana is legal in almost half of the United States and Canada. For Irving it was the only medicine that helped him. It’s much less dangerous than the pain killers the team shoots them up with or the anti-depression drugs the Dr.’s prescribe which didn’t work for him. So ride off into the sunset on your high horse and drown your sorrows with some whiskey. It’s legal everywhere.

So it’s ok with the teams shooting them up with dangerous pain killers but not ok for a player to self medicate with cannabis which is a much, much softer medicine just because one’s legal and one is only legal in about 20 states? That’s a very narrow minded view of the situation.
I really wish they would just decriminalize it federally. The whole thing is weird. They let the states govern themselves with it but could step in at anytime and actually arrest and shut it down. You can’t have a medical marijuana card and buy a gun or have a concealed carry license.

I LOVED David Irving's play a few years ago, but hard pass on this guy. That Green Bay game in 2016 was one of the best I've seen a Cowboys DL play in a long time.

Dude is unreliable, has historical issues staying in shape and keeping his body right, and on top of all that, is a head case.

I disagree.. He’s too talented.. If he wants to play he’s a huge addition to the team.
Agree. It's the league's antiquated rules on weed that costs players suspensions. If the league took the same hard stance toward tobacco and booze, then I'd have less of a problem with their stance on marijuana. As for Irving, I read a few minutes ago that he would be a Free Agent if reinstated...I thought Dallas retained his rights, but apparently not.

David Irving: A pot smokin', free-wheeling nut job who'll do whatever it takes to support his habit and cannot be counted upon to serve his team.
And you’re a intellectually challenged individual unable to comprehend the benefits that cannabis provided a man with psychological issues and differentiate that from being a “pot head”.

And you're a functionally challenged individual with a wild imagination who delights in being rude and nasty.

You guys act like as if enjoying a weed habit is akin to becoming a full blown meth addict.

Yet I'm sure there are many very successful NFL players that get completely hammered on booze a couple times a week, even during the season.

If he wants to come back on a cheap contract, IMO he should be allowed a chance to prove he wants to play.
I don't smoke the stuff and never have. That said, I see weed as less dangerous to society than tobacco and alcohol and there's no ban on either of them. The leagues stance on marijuana is moronic at best, and hypcritical at worst (the league will fill your TV screen with beer ads all game every game).

It's not that he smoked weed, it's that he basically quit on the team. And he did that before he actually quit. Missed like all of training camp due to legal issues, never came to practice, played a few snaps and then was done for the year after an ankle sprain. The guy is a headcase...but we need talent on the D-line so if he wants to come back and play then I say bring him back.

Please don't assume. I never said it was okay that they used dangerous painkillers, or fair. I said pot was currently against League policy. Until it is not, its use a detriment to the team. I'm a Cowboys fan first. I fully advocate them changing league policy to allow it, but until then players should stay away from weed for the good of their team. Nobody forces them to play. They can seek employment elsewhere. They have a right to apply to play in the NFL, but they don't have a right TO play in it. If they can't even follow the simple rules laid out...

Any time a player does something suspension-worthy intentionally, they get no sympathy because they're hurting their team. It's that simple.

Eventually it will be legal in the NFL and in all 50 states. That will be fair and a good thing. It is not yet. That isn't narrow minded. That's being a fan of the team.

They could at least change the rules for the players that have a legal card. They allow for anything else you have a prescription for. Maybe that’s there plan.

I don't want him, he is a quitter. He did not get his way threw a fit and quit because he could not smoke his weed. Give me a break if weed is not that big of a deal then why would you give up a career in the NFL for it? I'm tired of the 10 cent head players. Dallas needs to get players who have dedication to the game who are willing to give all they have to win championships and get away from these morons who only care about a damn paycheck.

It is not just a matter of him smoking pot. He is unreliable and a head case. Irving wants to play at his convenience. Obviously he is not committed to carving out a career in the NFL. Money is not a means to an end but an end to his means.
Did you not see that I mentioned he quit on us? Does that not suggest to you he is unreliable? Do you feel the need to preach to the choir?

He absolutely demolished GB. Maybe his best game ever. For that reason alone MM should be interested.

Ah yes the player that has played exactly 10 games in the last 3 seasons because of suspensions for the rest. Who publicly said after announcing his retirement that he would continue to smoke weed to help with the pain he has and probably has seen a gym in years. Certainly not in NFL shape and because the proposal for the new CBA that hasn't been ratified has the removal of suspensions for weed that the Cowboys should even for a tiny fraction of a split second should consider this guy.

Heck yeah. Bring him back in.

Yea, it's funny that he said he didn't care about the game. But I don't care if he likes it or not. He's capable of dominating.

Dallas' tolerance for risk and then for failed risks is too much when they lead the NFL in both categories that matter in this discussion: total suspensions given by the league to each team and total man-games lost to those suspensions. If the Cowboys had a high number of suspensions but they were for one game each, maybe this is no big deal. If they had two suspensions but for many games, then we would say it is a few isolated incidents. Unfortunately, the reality is that the Cowboys led the NFL in both categories. And to make matters worse, they lead them both by a healthy (or quite unhealthy) margin.

This should upset Cowboy fans but instead people want to resign problem players then get on the organization for the culture? sorry that does not jive you can't talk out of both sides of your mouth of wanting accountability, discipline then act as if bringing in problem players is not an issue yet scream about Jerry when it happens.

Sure, until he decides he doesn't want to play anymore and quits again to make a rap album.
