Because you're a hater, Bob. You need medication.
Great points.Gallup started 4 less games and only has 80 less yards....... (his yards don't impress me).
Agreed that you don't let him walk but you also have to call it like it is. Both his pro bowls for the cowboys where alternates and he's never made all-pro team. He's a very solid starter but not elite (basically a slightly less exagerrated Byron Jones). If his agent thinks he can easily get 20million a year then you tell him to kick rocks
Our top paid QB needs a top paid OL, along with the highest paid RB, and top paid WR and STILL doesnt win....Keep Cobb, Draft a WR in the 2nd round, and start Gallup.
You'd essentially at that point have three starting WR's with 2nd round grades and a TE who will also be upgraded as well (along with 3 pro bowl caliber WR and the highest paid RB in the league).
How much more freaking talent do you need ?
Still waitin’ on that last prescription.Because you're a hater, Bob. You need medication.
The best value at 17 is going to be Jeudy or Lamb when they slip.
Should work it out with Prescott already because they are going to eventually cave....and tag Cooper.
If the draft goes your way you lift the tag.

Yeah I agree that’s probably what happens I just don’t think this FO ever has a longer term plan than next season. Or what it takes to build a winner. They know how to sell. Apparently they’ve forgotten how to build a winner.I don't go 20 Million either but I don't think he is going to turn down a good offer from Dallas. He has said all the right things all along the way and clearly likes playing on this team, there are plenty of creative structures (like Zeke that I mentioned above) to get him enough money but done in a way that works for the Dallas cap.
I think Dak, Amari and Quinn are all resigned before FA and the initial cap hits will be lower than people here expect.
The Cowboys had to make that trade. Dez was gone and there were no legit outside WR's on the roster. The 2018 season would have been completely lost if not for Cooper. Instead they went 7-2, made the playoffs and won a game.Good points. I guess I would have never made that trade to begin with. JJ loves him some WRs. Since the Cooper trade was made, we are 15-10, with 1 wild card playoff win. That’s certainly not to say Cooper didn’t help. He certainly did in 2018.
Hot sports opinion here: I don’t think the Cowboys need to sign Amari Cooper. Yes, I know I will take missiles for this but hear me out.
Yes, Cooper is an excellent receiver, I get that. Yes, he has played very well here and has had great chemistry with Dak most of the time. Yes, Jerry gave up a first rounder to get him. Understood. Yes, he’s a hard worker and good person off the field...I get that too. But here are my reasons why I don’t think it’s in the best interest of this team to sign Amari Cooper:
- First of all, having a big contract WR AND big dollar RB is not usually a common formula for a championship roster. In fact, I think the Zeke contract was a mistake but that’s another argument.
- I think saving that cap space to invest in other areas of the team would be smarter and have a bigger impact in both the short and long term. Having a deeper roster at multiple positions is how you get better! (Look at the niners last year- they were good at many positions very quickly) We need help at so many positions and we are sinking a fortune in positions that are easier to find talent (RB and WR)
- Michael Gallup will be in his third season, and I believe he’s ready to emerge even more as a go to receiver. Draft a WR in rounds 3-5, and/or sign a cheaper FA with some upside. (Side note: It’s an outdated idea to think you must always have a clear “#1 receiver”. All you need today are multiple receivers that are legit threats)
Honestly, I think this ship has sailed and I will be surprised if Cooper isn’t signed to a big contract. I like Amari Cooper and I know he will continue to be a great player. And I will certainly be thrilled if keeping him proves we wrong, which could easily happen.
- We might be able to afford bringing Randall Cobb back plus a good rookie receiver. (This is a deep draft for receivers) Thus giving us more options and flexibility on a roster that needs a ton of help on the other side of the ball.
But....I don’t think keeping Amari Cooper is a cornerstone to a championship. Just my opinion.
Jerry scenario? Trade Dak, draft a new QB, and sign Brady in the meantime. Jerry is an entertainer, and Dak isn't that entertaining, while that scenario makes us entertaining for years to come.
They tried that in 2018, it didn't work. Which is why they traded for Cooper.

At this point it’s about having a talented roster. I only have so many draft picks....I can’t keep letting talent guy while also trying to fill holes I have.Yeah, I predict we will sign him- I just don’t think it is good roster building.
The Cowboys spent a 1st rounder just 17 months ago to get him. They will resign him. Otherwise they will have to spend additional draft capital to get another WR to take his place.
Trade wasn't the error. The error was not signing him to an extension at the time of the trade. That would have avoided all this off season drama we have to endure. He's a sunk cost. You don't chase that and dig a deeper hole for your team. His trade was an error and "win now" move which didn't pan out in enough wins to justify it. Cut the cord and go cheaper.
2015 first round pick Byron Jones will walk.
2016 first round pick Zeke peaked his rookie year.
2017 first round pick Taco is gone.
2018 first round pick LVE has a major injury concern.
2019 first round pick Cooper - don’t want to pay him.
This is looking like a recipe for disaster coming up.
