An exception should be made to a player that outplays their rookie contract and Zeke clearly did. He knows that RBs don’t have long careers and with his workload he might never see a big payday had he played out his rookie deal.

Once again, I agree...mostly. Virtually nothing is 100%. One point—a player earning say, 4 million, is said to be earning “peanuts”, but in reality they’re set for life. IMO, you have to be a complete moron to blow it.

My opinion is zeke was worth it looking at what Dak, Tank, Coop got and sandwiched close to what Jsmith and other like LC got that are larger % of the cap, Damn phucking right Zeke deserves that , RBs dont have as long of careers and hes given us 4 pretty damn great years in a row and has plenty left in the tank..

it does matter if a player is durable and injury free vs injury prone.. the rams have been stupid across the board.. I dont believe its was bad at all, sure would have been nice to be around 11-12 but it was team friendly in structure and Zeke derives 13-15 for his past and future survive and he will earn it.. if Coop tank and Dak can get 20 Daks just as big an asset..you wont convince me other wise and its too late Jones's agreed..

ewe can revisit in 3 years and reevaluate but as of now , its fine..

Are you speaking English?

Zeke contract is structured to cut for little cost in I believe 2023

The way his contract is structured is pretty Cowboys friendly, relatively speaking of course. It does a lot more damage to Jerry's wallet than the cap. What you said in regards to his contract is correct. But the Cowboys could release him after 2021 if they feel he's not worth it and still pick up about 6M in cap space.

RBs have the shortest shelflife but when you have an offense that’s built around the running game and you have a dynamic RB you have to pay them. Twice we’ve had QBs pass for almost 5000 yards and both times it led to an 8-8 season and missing the playoffs. Dak struggled without Zeke the six games he missed in 2017. He’s a player we had to pay.
You can have an offense that is built on the running game without putting all your resources into one player. It didn't produce much last year, did it? Four years with an "elite" back and one playoff win is not my idea of a success story.

One hell of a cap hit to release him and makes a statement about overpaying running backs these days.

According to Schefter, the team spent weeks trying to trade him and cut the running back before they would’ve had to pay him $10.5 million at 4 p.m. EST today. Gurley signed a 4 year, $60 million contract extension with the Rams on July 24, 2018.

By releasing Gurley before June 1, the Rams would have $20.15 million in dead money, according to overthecap.com. But the Rams would save about $10 million over the next two years if he was not on the roster.

Shouldnt this be in the NFL Zone?

I actually had no problem with that like a lot of other fans. I think Pollard should get some reps and i'd like to preserve him as much as posisle.
Do you remember the first Super Bowl against the Buffalo Bills. They should’ve kept Thurman Thomas in as a decoy. For me it’s a huge issue

What how did the Rams "get it" when they just signed Gurley to a massive deal just over a year and a half ago? Is this a joke?
None of those situations with the other players are even remotely close.
I'm not a huge fan of the Zeke deal but acting like its in any way shape or form comparable to what these other teams did with their RBs is ridiculous. Two of those players are insanely injury prone by the way...can you tell me other than the completely bogus suspension Zeke had how many games he's missed because of injury?
The steelers were the team that got it.

You get a Zero on the exam.

Please do the extra credit next time.

103.3 ESPN Dallas is commenting on this subject now, and are indicating that maybe the Cowboys could be having some second thoughts on the Zeke extension. Archer randomly called in and debunked it, saying that the situations are different because the Rams knew he had a physical ailment before giving the extension. Archer seems to think that the Zeke contract isn't dangerous at all.

Alarming stat as it pertains to the RB position though - of the 22 RB's taken in the 2015 draft, now none of them are with the team that drafted them.

incredible.

Dak Prescott had huge numbers last season - so he deserves big money.

Elliott has put up the numbers his entire career - well you see, that's different because 1 playoff win.

Different, Different.

Means nothing. The best backs haven’t been paid yet.

The Best Backs haven't been drafted yet. That's the role of the back. The backs who enter the league are the best backs. The best backs are not the ones who have already played 4 years in the league because they are closer to the end rather then the beginning.

Zeke produced 1357 yards and 12 touchdowns, you’re calling that not producing much? We tried an RB by committee and it didn’t work which is why we drafted him. You need a runner that defenses have to account and game plan for. You can’t blame Zeke that we only have one playoff win. We’ve had coaching and defensive issues. The Cowboys have never won a championship without having an elite runner. They had Duane Thomas during the 1971 season. They had Tony Dorsett when they won their championship in 1977 and Emmitt during our championships in the 90s.
