If Dak get's a new contract which pays him like the Top QB's then he won't be given too much margin for error with the fans.
Being a 4th round pick and his ability to right the ship has endured him to the fans. But, now that he will be paid like the top QB's he will be expected to play like one and things that may have been forgiven by fans before won't any more.
It's not that he's overpaid that upsets people, it's the fact that him taking up more and more of the cap space prevents the team from retaining players due to the restraints implemented by the cap.
He will be expected to show that he can carry the team and be the main cog that elevates the team/players to the upper level.
He needs to show that the players he has around him is irrelevant up to a certain point and be able to perform even when he isn't surrounded by top notch players.
Right now he has Zeke, Cooper, and Gallop that are excellent players and help mask a lot of his deficiencies in a lot of instances.
Now, he will be expected to perform even if/when those players go out due to injury.

Your dead on,,, if Dak was a smart man he takes a million less than what is on the table, I bet that gets it done,,,
He walks away looking like he is playing for a discount, and fans are so stupid that they forgive his inadequate abilities for a million bucks... chump change.

To me, I don't care what the fans think or what he thinks of the fans.

To me, if we are paying him the most in the NFL, he has to play like one of the best in NFL - Top 5 for sure.

If hes making that type of cheddar there should be zero excuses. Don't tell us about how the OL struggled or Elliott is too fat and not as good anymore or the WRs got hurt or whatever. You want to be paid like the best, you play like the best. The best like Wilson and Brady thrived regardless of the circumstances.

When has Dak ever had the benefit of the doubt from fans? He didn't have it last year at 500k a year so why should he care?

Yeah but Aaron Rodgers and Drew Bree's haven't always strived and they were the highest paid and were allowed to have excuses.....

Fans criticizing Dak Prescott?? Unpossible!

Agree with your point but A) a bunch of fans are polarized about Dak to begin with and B) every Cowboy player gets a lot more criticism when the sign their first big contract.

Rodgers, in like the last decade, has had one season with a QB Rating below 95............ and he got criticized that year to the point some wondered if he was washed up.

You Dak guys can't have it both ways............ you can't say he deserves to be the highest paid in football and then turn around and constantly make excuses for him when he struggles.

I really don't like saying this, but, Dak is setting himself up for failure. Team failure and fan failure because of his greed. I mean, the boy can play the QB position, we know he can, but his attitude, his unwillingness to meet in the middle is going to be his cross to carry when games against quality opponents don't go so well and he cannot overcome and elevate the team. He says he wants to be the best QB the Cowboys have had in a long time, however, it appears he is not concerned with his "team", only about getting paid. He's a very lucky kid that I'm not the owner that is trying to win a stinking SB after all these years...I would tell him, see ya! Go find a team that will pay you what you want.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, which ever side you are on, we have JJ and his son that will cave. So, if Dak keeps this up, he better accept the criticism he going to encounter...and I'm going to be one of the first in line!

Just because Dak is about to get highly paid doesn't mean that he won't struggle.

Let's don't kid ourselves here...Dak will be scrutinized regardless of what he does out there. You know this. I know this. And you know this would happen regardless of how much Dak was being paid. This happened when he was getting paid nothing lol.

I'm gonna continue to judge him regardless of how he gets paid because its moot. His contract just gives some people validation to do what they would be doing to him anyway.

Did Romo, Zeke, Dez or Lawrence "meet in the middle" on their deals? Did they do Jerry that solid? So why should Dak? Out of the kindness of his heart?

Do you really know what is being offered? That's the point I'm curious about. We don't have the details, yet we seem to make definitive judgements anyway.

Dak hasn’t been given too much margin for error since the day he took over for Romo in 2016. Fans have been looking for excuses to move on from him the past four seasons. Each season they become more critical of his play. His contract situation has created more urgency to get rid of him for many fans. A new contract extension that will possibly make him the highest paid player in the league will just escalate the displeasure many fans have for his play.

Romo, Dez are old news, stop the comparison. As for Lawrence and Zeke, I agree, however, that does not mean that Dak has to be that greedy.

We don't know the details yet, but....the way things are going, he sure does not seem to be this "leader" that he and other fans think he is.
