It is a good video. And when I say good video, I mean complete video, of which contains far more content than simply its YouTube title of 'Tony Romo: Losing my spot to Dak Prescott' suggests. Or this particular thread suggests.
Romo's comments about team are relevant in my opinion. No one player is above their team. I believe team goals are equally relevant.
2016 was an euphoric season for quite a number of people, from Jerry Jones to fans to members of the media. A rookie quarterback was leading his team on a historic regular season run. The rest of the team seemingly fed off Prescott all the way to a number one NFC playoff seed.
There was only one remaining team goal at that singular point-in-time. It is the sole team goal any team hopes to fulfill if-and-when the opportunity presents itself. And it is the single team goal devoid of rational dispute.
Reach and win the Super Bowl.
2016 did provide one particular franchise defining result. Jerry Jones had acquired his future franchise quarterback. It is my continued belief Jones made his final decision after a few preseason games and one-half of a regular season in his evaluation. Personally, I accepted the ramifications Jones' decision would entail for the next five, ten, heck, possible fifteen or more seasons to come--in November 2016. All ramifications.
Contract demands
Salary Cap concessions
Roster adjustments
And more.
Jerry Jones had proven and continues proving to this day he commits, one hundred percent, to the man he picks as his franchise quarterback. Jones made a solid choice in Dak Prescott, whom I think will have a successful NFL career, with the support of team management, quality coaching and effective teammates--just like any other successful quarterback.
However, the team's 2016 goal was never destined to become true.
Why?
No rookie quarterback has and never likely will ever compete for and/or help win a National Football League Super Bowl championship.
It is 2020. Dak Prescott is Dallas' (now) veteran quarterback, capable of leading his team to a Super Bowl championship, with all the right pieces falling into the right places just like any other quarterback, regardless of what his overzealous critics say and think.
Go Prescott!
Go Cowboys!
Thanks Romo.
