I like it.

Low risk/high reward.

Now, stop sitting on cap room, go sign a veteran CB and a slot WR candidate, and go onto this draft without any obvious, glaring needs.

I think slot WR is a possibility, but CB was covered by re-signing Brown. With Lewis, Awuzie and Brown, I believe the team feels CB isn't an obvious, glaring need. I don't agree with that, but I can see the team feeling that way.

For what it's worth, if the team sees an expanded role for Pollard, then it might not believe slot WR is a glaring need, either.

I have zero tolerance for men who beat women- whether drugs or alcohol were involved or not. If a tape existed of Smith beating that woman in 2018 this transaction would never happen.

I agree, but post - Ray Rice I don't think the kind of guys that beat women will ever play in the NFL. But this really seems like guy who is an idiotic, belligerent drunk instead of a predator. If its the former and he really has been sober for several years, the argument is that he is a different person than he was then.

Doesn’t make it a good one.

it would be IF Alden has truly rehabbed and made changed his thought process, if he is truly clean and sober and proves he's recommitted himself
as a citizen. ... And if he can show even a glimpse of his former sack menace in his early Niners days.

Yes, its' a lot of " IF's " for a 30 year older, with a troubled past and hasn't played in 4 years

Will his past, crimes and incident a permanent tattoo for some ? Can he prove his past will be past? .. or will his past be pro- logged ?

Low risk/High Reward move, imo.

I totally agree, what I go back to on WR3 is that McCarthy turned Randall Cobb as a second round pick into a productive player right away. I do think that between McCarthy, Kellen Moore and the fact 5 of the other 10 offensive starters have been to a Pro Bowl, they can make even a 3rd or 4th round pick into a productive WR3 as a rookie. Especially in a draft this deep.

But I agree with you, even if they went WR at 17 I wouldn't mind as long as the 2nd rounder was a CB.
Agreed, end of the day they gotta hit on their CB pick and WR pick wherever they pick em, and they have the flexibility to make it happen in a variety of ways

Rumor has it.... Clowney has reduced his salary demands to 17-18 million per year....

Nah I'm done with the league essentially, someday i may take an interest in rooting for a team again but for now I just want to watch stephen and jerry fail miserably.
But if they fail the TEAM fails. I’m sick and tired of failure.

he’s been out of the league 4 years!!!
This is completely impossible.

Just recently, I read right here that Dez has been out of the league for 2 years and will never play again.

I predict Dez is signed in the next 30 days before the Draft now.

Jerrah..and McCarthy approved this?

Oh boy.

Happy happy.

Come on man. Don’t play opinion police. You can be a huge fan of this team and have a different opinion.
Not if you wanna see us fail. Disliking certain moves, players, coaches and acquisitions are understandable. But wanting to witness the entire team failing ain’t true fandom.

No April fools here. Wow.

Didn’t see this coming!

The Tomsula connection gives me hope that they coaches have solid insight into Smith’s recovery. Tomsula certainly knew what to do with Smith when he was coaching him.

I’m also a Jay Glazer fan and his connections to players and coaches is solid, without question. If he says the recovery is legit, then I’m certainly willing as a fan to go along for the ride and hope this guy has turned his life around.

good move by Jerry

To me,this is one of those wait and see signings for sure.
What gives me hope is the new Coaching staff. Surely the Jones must have gone to MM and asked if he could work with this dude ?
Both McCarthy and Tomsula must have been part of the vetting process.
It's a good signing financially, low risk, high reward if he's got his head on straight.
BUT.
Just like Gregory , dont trust him - yet.
I'll give the FO and Coaching staff the benefit of the doubt, at this point. But man, I sure hope there done their homework on this dude !

Pretty sure this is the opposite. Tomsula & MM went to Jones.

this wreaks of a Jerry Jones special.
You’re probably way off on this. Jerry probably didn’t even have Smith on his radar.

This is a McCarthy move with an assist from Tomsula.

Glazer has a personal connection with Smith and also broke the McCarthy hire. They have a relationship as well. It would not surprise me one bit if he and McCarthy discussed it. Hell it wouldn’t surprise me if Glazer was the matchmaker.
