This is a typical C'boys bargain basement special. Low risk, high reward. If he succeeds, many other teams will be jealousy taking notice. If not, nobody would be overly surprised, all things considered. Jay Glazer is an extremely reliable source, so there's that to ponder. I'm liking it a lot. Not much to lose.

I just watched the video that Red Ball posted above. And it reminds me that Alton really was in a league of his own when he played. Although he hasn’t played I a few years, I think there’s a good chance he can return to 80-85 percent of the production he once had. If he does that would still be pretty damned good. That's a good question, but the solution is not always a valid option. I guess some flaky fans could do that but if for some reason I was unable to be a Cowboys fan there are no other options. You can't just pick another team, it doesn't work that way. So yeah, I'd be angry too. But I can only speak for myself.

Aldon Smith is an absolute beast. He’s fast and he has the perfect frame to play the position. He’s got a mean streak too.

Look, I get it, if ifs and buts were candy and nuts... but IF Aldon Smith and Gregory are reinstated, wow, I really like this defensive line. Throw Javon Kinlaw in there and this defense could be scary good.

I don't think I insinuated that. I think this is completely on McCarthy and Tomsula. Jerry is just an easy sell when it comes to second-chance players. I personally don't mind that. You win some and you lose some when you take risks.

Hey gimmesix. I wasn't trying to zone in on you particularly. If I did it was inadvertent. I was responding to a number of comments. What does bug me somewhat is blanket statements that Smith will be paid 4 million dollars for one year. In reality he is getting base pay of 2 million dollars and if he reaches whatever incentives that compensation will double to 4 million dollars. And if he does earn 4 million dollars then who should really complain because it would mean he was not only productive but likely dominant at this position.

If Smith doesn't pan out they will cut him. From what we've read it looks like he seriously has turned his life around. The question will be if he can readjust to the rigors of football and regain most of his defensive skills or playing effectiveness.
