Bwahahaha...Jerry’s half way house is almost at full occupancy, maybe we can resurrect Hardy as well.

Jerry continues to keep the masses salivating by making a baby splash from signing a player with a nice rap sheet, was drafted 9 years ago and hasn’t played in the league in 5 years.

Lol, this guy....he just keeps scratching those lottery tickets and tries to look smarter than everyone else with these signings yet the results are always the same. I’d like to say this is unbelievable but it’s Jerry and the Cowboys so sadly it’s real. The soap opera continues.

Out of football for multiple years: check
Unreliable: check
Likes to smoke weed: check
Looking for insane money: check
Will generate headlines: check
Good chance of wasting cap space and roster spot: check

This signing checks all the boxes. Surprised it didn't happen sooner.
Oh but you’re missing so much more, he almost looks good there.

Some things never change. As Emmitt once said, " A tiger can't change it's spots."

Why do they keep bringing in problem child players who have failed multiple times to just follow simple rules? Weapons, drugs, violence, alcohol, what hasn't he done?

You can't pass him off as a misunderstood kid.

The 4 million is as surprising as the signing itself. Perhaps there were other teams involved??
That could be because he has been in league long time. Tenure means the older players have a higher minimum wage.

He is getting paid about the same as Kai Forbath 1yr/2mil....if it works, amazing....if not you cut him. Why are people whining over this? The upside to Smith is better than anyone available on the free agent market.

It's odd. I agree. It's a long shot and he probably won't make the team. But he was once a great player and from all reports has completely turned his life around.

This is interesting. His off the field problems are well documented...but the guy was a monster for those couple of games the 49ers did have him. If he is truly (TRULY) sober and he has something left in the tank, this could be amazing. Now i hope we take care of our cornerback situation. I feel like I've watched our defense constantly bend and break with very limited push back.

Here's the sad part.
4 years out of the league yet he is immediately pencilled in to start because our talent at RDE is so damn poor...

I have a problem with both. Dez isn’t a bad dude but he’s finished. ASmith? I can deal with second chances alcohol or drug problems- but not domestic violence. Besides this is his 4th chance. This FO never ceases to amaze me at the circus they foster.
We don't know either way.

Aldon Smith's best year ... 19.5 sacks.

If we get 1/3rd of that on a rotational DE, we've won.

Also recall, current Cowboys DL coach Jim Tomusula was the DL coach for the 49ers when Smith was there so there is some link
Great post.

Fantastic low risk signing, I love it.

Easily one of the worst individuals you can sign. Literal walking cancer to a team.

Where is he penciled in as the starter? I haven’t seen that anywhere... I have heard talk of Crawford coming back. Tyrone would more than likely be your starting RDE.

Now if Smith or Gregory outperform him during camp— then maybe there is a change. But for now— this move is what it is:

Tomsula reuniting with a former player, and Grandpa Jerry giving another troubled kid a chance at redemption.

Harsh crowd. Nothing wrong with seeing what the guy has. A cheap swing for the fences, I’m quite fine with it, kid deserves a chance.
From what I’ve read he’s had a chance, in fact he’s had several.

I like it. Who knows if he can still play after such a long layoff. If Glazer to be believed though, he has at least got his real life turned around. I don’t think Smith is a guy you can ever count on. Same with Gregory.

The Dline has a lot of questions with age, high $ player, players coming back after missing years, etc. as far as loon though, they are finally looking better at the dline though. I think this is what we all wanted though. If you are not going to use first round picks on the dline at least get creative and take some calculated gambles on players who could be nice additions.
