If you scroll through the picks in any given draft....ALL seven rounds that is....you'll find that only 15-20 players in the whole draft amounted to anything at all.

Trying to redo a first round is a task, and since Woods and Awuzie actually started games, there you are.....first round worthy.

That's why I dont even bother to argue when players like Baun or Murray CANNOT be taken at 17 because they are ranked 20-25.

You're lucky to come away with someone who contributes at all.

Cowboys Zone posters want all-pros and hall of famers with their first round picks. Some think Dak is a bust and should have been cut and he was a 4th round pick. We knocked it out the ballpark in 2016.

I hope you're right but I'll believe it when I see it.

Chido tries hard (most of the time), but he's always a day late and a dollar short. In the picture, but just missing out on making the play.

I do remember Chido looking pretty good his rookie season. That is, until the losing stench of Garrett and Marinelli washed over him.

I seem to remember quite a few players like that.
  • Chido
  • Jourdan Lewis
  • Xavier Woods
  • Maliek Collins
  • Vander Esch
  • Cooper Rush
The longer they're here, the worse they look.

And with the 25th pick in the first round:

25. HOUSTON TEXANS: CB CHIDOBE AWUZIE
Previous Pick: S Jabrill Peppers (Browns via trade)
The Texans’ biggest area of need right now is help in the secondary, and Awuzie is the cornerback left on the board with the best track record over a three-year span. He’s been solid in coverage for the Cowboys the past two years, with coverage grades of 65.4 and 70.5 to go along with an allowed completion rate of 62.5%. Those aren’t spectacular numbers, but they also aren’t going to kill your team. Looking at the players left on the board and the sort of value that a player like Awuzie has brought to the table, it makes sense for him to go here to a team that could use him.

_________________________

So once again the Cowboys nailed a draft (2016 & 2017), landing two first round picks in the 2nd and 6th rounds respectively.
I would say they nailed the draft in 2017 if they got any production from their first round pick. They had a decent draft.

And the Dolphins will regret that decision sooner rather than later.
Maybe . But QB's have completed less than 55% of their passes on him and have had a rating of 84 and 87 the last two year against him. To say he hasnt been a goof CB is a bad take

Byron Jones and Chido Awuzie, poster boys for proof it takes more than being fast on the track to be a good CB.
I suspect you are too caught up in INT's to view this reasonably. Of course INT's are part of the picture, and are often what separates a good CB from an outstanding one, but good is still … well … good. After all, there are in between levels. It isn't just standout/star or trash.

One, the hate for Awuzie is overstated. Two, I am not sure what Lewis has done to make one think he's better than Awuzie at this point.

But hopefully both are good because I have some serious questions about our secondary.
Lewis would make plays here and there but he's a prime example of fans falling in love with the unknown.

Granted, it shouldn't have taken a injury to Anthony Brown to finally get Lewis some play but Lewis looked lost at time last year. People just don't remember because of the interception or fumble recovery.

Honestly....you probably can put that whole 2016 NFL draft in there. Zeke, Dak, Maliek, Brown.........maybe you can put Jaylon in there too. He red shirted his first year and second year wasn't ready.....third year finally healed and looked legit......then last year happened.

Is it me or is Christian McCAffery incredibly low on this list?

28. DALLAS COWBOYS: S XAVIER WOODS
Previous Pick: EDGE Taco Charlton
Woods finds a home again with the Cowboys, only this time it comes as a first-round pick rather than a sixth-round selection. The three-year man out of Louisiana Tech is coming off the best season of his career in coverage, as he earned a 78.0 coverage grade in 2019. Woods has been solid as the Cowboys’ free safety each of the past two years, and providing average to above-average play at safety like Woods has is inherently valuable to a defense. Rather than wasting away a pick with Charlton, the Cowboys secure their safety several rounds earlier.

Getting Woods that late almost makes up for losing out on Taco but the miss on Taco shouldn't have even happened. I'm not even sure if I fault them for thinking he'd be something. I don't recall hearing about any personal issues with him. He looked to have potential. But if the argument for why they chose him over TJ Watt was because of "fit"? That is a fail.

Maher as well.

Went from an 80% success rate in year one to 67% in year two. Worse even on kickoffs too!

I like Lewis, but he's a 'feast or famine' player. He's either making a big play or giving one up. I noticed plenty of time last year where he had blown coverage. And I think that inconsistency is a big reason why he wasn't playing more.

I agree. That is one thing I did trust with Richard. People thought it was because of Lewis's size. I honestly think he was the 4th best corner last year. I'm a fan. He has that "dog" in him that everyone loves. I fell in love with his play when I Saw the clips of him and Dez going at it. If Chido had his "dog" he'd probably be a corner. ITs nothing against Lewis I just don't get how anyone can think Lewis, Brown, Chido aren't of the same caliber. I think Chido has the highest ceiling of them all though.

Damn did did they go that low?

And what happened to Chris Jones? I've always been more of a big leg guy like what we had with McBriar and Chris Jones has never been that. But was he not the punter we had running fake punts and stuff with? Actually had decent speed for a punter too. Not saying you want to run a fake with him all the time but special teams lost all of its imagination........well it never really had it but the little it had they just got rid of it.
