Our biggest needs are in the secondary. Would you take McKinney and Fulton both in the 1st if we only had to give up our 2nd?

Trade down with MIN to #25 (get #89 and #105). Select McKinney with #25.

Trade #51, #89, and #105 to SF for #31. Draft Fulton with #31.

Basically upgrading our 2nd round pick for a late first to get 2 potential high quality starters in the secondary.

I'd rather move up in round two for a jaylon johnson type and only give up one third round pick with 51

Moving into the first might be a bit rich because you are paying a premium for the 5th year option

It's funny how things go full circle. I started out wanting McKinney and am starting to get interested in him again. HIs versatility and high football IQ are intriguing. And it's not just jack of all trades master of none, he's very good at slot corner, high safety, and nickel linebacker. I just did a mock draft trading with the Seahawks for their later second round pick and still getting McKinney. I'm not as high on Fulton but there are a lot of people that are.

He is my #1 realistic guy,

If we could pull it off, I would be all for it. Two likely starters on five-year deals and we still have our 3rd round pick for an edge or WR.

He kind of reminds me of that safe pick that isn't really exciting but someone that will be a starter for 10 years doing a good job. I wasn't too excited when we took Zack Martin in the first but he worked out pretty well.
Bingo.
I think he is as safe pick as we could make.
Day 1 starter, plays in all packages, good tackler, can play the quarters defense, makes plays, team captain , two year starter in the SEC, I'll take that

That much effort for picks who aren't much better than what you'll get with your regular picks doesn't make much sense to me, especially since the concerns in the secondary are being really overstated.

Overview
Ascending safety prospect offering a combination of plus athleticism, field awareness and versatility. McKinney split time equally at slot, free safety and in the box and is accomplished in each. His coverage instincts, athleticism and quick-twitch burst are more cornerback than safety, which is why he's likely to be a coveted toy for teams looking to upgrade and diversify their sub-packages. He can sit in center field all day if needed, and he's an adequate open-field tackler but has room for improvement in that area. McKinney represents the new breed of versatile, matchup safety with high upside as an early starter.
Strengths
  • Known for high football IQ and field toughness
  • Versatility to match up with every personnel grouping
  • Plus burst with impressive change of direction in space
  • Smooth backpedal with agile feet and fluid hips to weave with quarterback
  • Adequate ball-tracking and poise when the ball goes up
  • Speed for foot race over the top in Cover 1
  • Intent on deciphering the quarterback's eyes
  • Anticipates and cuts under breaks looking for takeaways
  • Recognizes route combinations and adjusts coverage accordingly
  • Has instant burst to close and strikes with intent
  • Uses length to clamp and roll as tackle finisher
  • Takes smart angles into alley to clean up spillage
  • Above-average blitz talent from mugged-up A-gap or off the slot

The Cowboys are hunting for a #1 CB. They have been linked to Henderson, Diggs and Fulton, all three are expected in be 1st rd picks. Each one of them wouldn't surprise me if they were selected #17 by the team. It is quite possible the team could fail to land one if they wait to pick #51, as there is going to be a CB run at some point. I've heard that teams around the league rank these corners all over the place, it is quite possible teams with Henderson isn't a lock to be the #2 CB in the class. I can guarantee one thing, he won't get past 17, as the front office drools over that type of athlete, size/measurements for the position.

You cant teach heart and has ZERO.
Worse tackler than Mike Jenkins

You know how coaches are, they believe they can mold a player with such athletic traits. He scares the death out of me, actually like Jaylon Johnson the most out of the class, but know how this front office operates, they want a CB who is an elite length and athleticism. I know you have been pushing McKinney, I like the player too, but he's not the type this front office usually targets. More of a legitimate football player then a athlete. Will they ever learn?

Good post.
I like Jaylon Johnson too...

McKinney is a good player and I like him quite a bit. Problem is we have more pressing needs than safety. And picking on in the first round makes it harder for us to get good players at DE, CB, C, and WR
