Then it wasn't the "releasing a player that was felt to no longer be worth his pay level" that your prior post said that it was.
Because it's not how the people that were here handled their business. They simply blamed others for their falinings and had backdoor meetings to get them removed. As I mentioned, Dez wasn't the only guy that took the blame for Linehan's offense's struggles. There was a list.
And the lousy results, and then having to trade a 1st for Cooper to try to salvage it prove that they would. And it did hurt more than help.
When have they ever told you the truth? Everything they ever do is done with platitudes and backhanded compliments in public. Actions, not words.
And he also said that he was never offered one. Are you suggesting that the team took his prior public statements as some sort of fact and that's what they never offered him a paycut at all?
I disagree. If a team feels a guy is an attitude problem that would absolutely be part of determining he isn't worth his pay level. Benefit to the team is the determining factor, and that would include performance on the field, and contribution to a cohesive unit.
As for the constant scapegoating, my personal belief is that is greatly exaggerated. I think fans use that as a way to explain how Jerry justified keeping Garrett, or how Garrett was able to keep his job, but I think the reality is Jerry just wanted to keep Garrett because he had visions of Garrett being his Landry. I don't think Garrett could pull the wool over Jerry's eyes claiming it was all someone else's fault, and I don't think Jerry feels he has justify his actions. He has always done his own thing.
As for it hurting more than helping, sure it did. They miscalculated. Of course, the fact they pursued Sammy Watkins shows the understood they needed someone to replace Dez, but the fact they bungled it doesn't mean they didn't believe they needed to move on from Dez.
As for telling the truth, of course I always take what they say with a grain of salt, but the reality is that for someone to be used as a scapegoat they have to be blamed. Otherwise it's just fans assuming that was the purpose.
And yes, he said one was never offered. I wasn't suggesting otherwise. That doesn't change what I posted. In the end, it's all assumption and opinion on all sides.
