He did violent acts due to addiction.

and?

he did those things and had multiple chances in the league already. Putting him on this roster when this organization has failed for 20+years to help anybody with these issues is insane.

also do you make an exception to all violent crime if the person was an addict or is it just if they can sack quarterbacks?

I'll never understand why releasing a player that was felt to no longer be worth his pay level is scapegoating. Teams do it all the time - all across the NFL.

They also approach those players with an offer to reduce their salary and accept a paycut. Bryant never had that opportunity. That's where it's scapegoating, along with the team to allow perpetual malcontent Scott Linehan to throw several others under the bus too, cutting his own throat in the process. They also allowed him to wreck both the offensive line and receivers groups on his way out.

Some around here will defend every dumazz contract Jerry hands out. Then have a problem with Dez at minimum wage! Really making a big deal of this one. If he was signed its very likely to be a pretty low risk situation.

What if it wasn't all salary, and part was attitude? Maybe they just didn't want him back. After all, if they felt he could be a big benefit to the team going forward, why wouldn't they try and work something out? It doesn't make much sense to believe they would walk away from a player they think is a big plus to the team just to manufacture a scapegoat. That would hurt them rather than help. Besides, I don't recall them saying Dez was the cause of all problems anyway. Also, remember that Dez had publically said, I think more than once, that he would not accept a pay reduction. I believe he only said he would have considered it after he had been released.

This is just the idiotic talk that has me believed why it's so easy to brainwash people. Dez was 100% a scapegoat of Garrett. Garrett used and abused this guy till his skills weren't the same then blamed him for another mediocre season. If only people could see and understand things that are so easy to see and understand not only this board would be a better place but this ****** *** world too!
Used and abused? lol. How is that? Dez was a football player, and Garrett used him as a football player. That's the nature of the relationship.

he shouldn't have been. He also should have been used differently after his skills changed in 2015. He played through injury for the good of the team and shouldn't have been dumped the way he was. Just like many guys who they have kicked out of here.

He was awesome to watch in the stadium.
Not so awesome watching him have meltdowns.

always exaggerated and used to make him be a villain. Was never true.

If you ever attended a game you would have seen and felt the energy he brought to the team and the stadium.

it took him a few seasons to be more level headed because he was pure 100% emotion early on but once he did he was nothing but positive for the team. People who made him out to be owens were completely wrong, nor was he or is he a criminal.

Seeing him back on the team in a different role would be a positive. I think as a role player and especially as a red zone target he would be great.

Then it wasn't the "releasing a player that was felt to no longer be worth his pay level" that your prior post said that it was.

Maybe they just didn't want him back. After all, if they felt he could be a big benefit to the team going forward, why wouldn't they try and work something out?

Because it's not how the people that were here handled their business. They simply blamed others for their failings and had backdoor meetings to get them removed. As I mentioned, Dez wasn't the only guy that took the blame for Linehan's offense's struggles. There was a list.

It doesn't make much sense to believe they would walk away from a player they think is a big plus to the team just to manufacture a scapegoat. That would hurt them rather than help.

And the lousy results, and then having to trade a 1st for Cooper to try to salvage it prove that they would. And it did hurt more than help.

Besides, I don't recall them saying Dez was the cause of all problems anyway.

When have they ever told you the truth? Everything they ever do is done with platitudes and backhanded compliments in public. Actions, not words.

Also, remember that Dez had publicly said, I think more than once, that he would not accept a pay reduction. I believe he only said he would have considered it after he had been released.

And he also said that he was never offered one. Are you suggesting that the team took his prior public statements as some sort of fact and that's what they never offered him a paycut at all?

I disagree. If a team feels a guy is an attitude problem that would absolutely be part of determining he isn't worth his pay level. Benefit to the team is the determining factor, and that would include performance on the field, and contribution to a cohesive unit.

As for the constant scapegoating, my personal belief is that is greatly exaggerated. I think fans use that as a way to explain how Jerry justified keeping Garrett, or how Garrett was able to keep his job, but I think the reality is Jerry just wanted to keep Garrett because he had visions of Garrett being his Landry. I don't think Garrett could pull the wool over Jerry's eyes claiming it was all someone else's fault, and I don't think Jerry feels he has justify his actions. He has always done his own thing.

As for it hurting more than helping, sure it did. They miscalculated. Of course, the fact they pursued Sammy Watkins shows the understood they needed someone to replace Dez, but the fact they bungled it doesn't mean they didn't believe they needed to move on from Dez.

As for telling the truth, of course I always take what they say with a grain of salt, but the reality is that for someone to be used as a scapegoat they have to be blamed. Otherwise it's just fans assuming that was the purpose.

And yes, he said one was never offered. I wasn't suggesting otherwise. That doesn't change what I posted. In the end, it's all assumption and opinion on all sides.

Don’t get me wrong, he was a great WR early in his career when his physical talent was better than most. But as he aged he could no longer rely solely on physical ability and had to work at his craft which he didn’t do. That’s why he’s not with the team now. Well, that and his sideline antics.

I dont think people who use this argument view the situation in its entirety. And I am basing this pre achilles, but before he was let go.... Cassel, Weeden, and the first 2 years of Dak. They werent a good fit, but the fall of his athleticism was drastically mis represented. Hes just 31ish now and that was 3 years ago.

I bet he can still get you 600 6 TDs as the 3/4 receiver.

Then I think that you should have included that added detail to begin with rather than simply saying it was simply about the money, don't you?

As for the constant scapegoating, my personal belief is that is greatly exaggerated. I think fans use that as a way to explain how Jerry justified keeping Garrett, or how Garrett was able to keep his job, but I think the reality is Jerry just wanted to keep Garrett because he had visions of Garrett being his Landry. Garrett's actions - and by extension his friend Linehan's - are well documented. I don't need to rehash them again for anyone that still wants to turn a blind eye to their history. I'm not about to try to force anyone to see what they choose not to.

As for it hurting more than helping, sure it did. They miscalculated. Of course, the fact they pursued Sammy Watkins shows the understood they needed someone to replace Dez, but the fact they bungled it doesn't mean they didn't believe they needed to move on from Dez.

But it does show that their decisions ultimately were shown to be poor ones. One after another after another.

As for telling the truth, of course I always take what they say with a grain of salt, but the reality is that for someone to be used as a scapegoat they have to be blamed. Otherwise it's just fans assuming that was the purpose.

If you're waiting to see that said in public, you'll be waiting forever. And taking their words at face value and everything they give you as the whole story is the opposite of taking things with a grain of salt. That's the true reality of it.

And yes, he said one was never offered. I wasn't suggesting otherwise. That doesn't change what I posted. In the end, it's all assumption and opinion on all sides.

Dez Bryant may be a lot of things, but a liar is something I've never found to be one of them. Jason Garrett on the other hand, I've see him lie again and again and again.

But yeah, people can assume whatever they want to about it.

I was at the Seattle game in 2017, right behind the Cowboy's bench. I could see and hear it all.
I saw him pout on the sideline. I saw him jawing with players. I've seen him give up on plays in motion because a DB got in his head which was detrimental to the play. I've seen him whine for the ball, get the ball only to fumble it away. I have plenty of other examples, that's just one game.
Please don't compare him to Owens, he's a legit HOFer. Bryant couldn't work hard enough to stay healthy or learn route running.
I don't think he's a villain or necessarily a bad person - he's just not very smart.

Interesting tweet thread

I agree.

He's overstating his case and he's absolutely using emotion here more than logic.

We don't even know that Dez is 70%. His last run he blew his achilles in NO.

I really am indifferent on this. If they want to bring him back and let him try to secure a roster spot, I guess I can live with that. But bringing him back to hand him a roster spot makes no sense to me. Unfortunately, I think if the Cowboys do bring him back, it's more out of emotion which we see all the time from Jerry, than it is logic.

He doesnt sound intelligent but he is not nearly as dumb as people think he is. In actuality he can hold a decent conversation and likely understands football better than our head coach the previous 10 year.

Stupid is as stupid does. I make no excuses for the choices he's made on and off the field. People need to stop coddling him.
