its an amazing pick in a vacuum, because they may have picked up the best, or at least top 2, WR in a loaded draft. The only thing to fear is you cannot really consistently win games 38-35, but that is about the situation that has been brought upon the Cowoboys. Right now i am pretty sure Witten could get open against this secondary.

Like the Lamb pick, I don’t love it. However, I was not at all impressed with any of the defensive players outside of Lambs teammate LB Murray at 17. I expected with Kinlaw, Henderson, and the ‘Bama WRs gone we would try to trade down a bit and snag Ruiz, which I would’ve been okay with also. I am pretty happy Lamb isn’t an eagle though.
Suspect Lamb means goodbye to Tavon Austin.
Lamb put up great numbers at OU,...but so does every QB and WR....
Lamb is very good no doubt and is listed at 6’2 but he has never seemed to be tall playing. I think he plays small and quick...as opposed to Gallup and Dez who play taller and bigger IMO. He reminds me of Jordan Lewis...feisty as heck...super competitor. We need that coming out of the JG experience.
His game is quickness, routes, and YAC. He should excel in the Beasely/Cobb role for us. I think he’s strictly a 3/slot guy and I hope we plan for him to do some KR. I presume Cedric Wilson and some other good young WRs we had in the stable are effectively relegated to forever backups now.
Day 2, love to steal one of the Ss from Minnesota or Bama, the TE from Missouri, or the LB from Wisconsin.

good post.

Sorry Jerrah. Not sure how valuable a 3rd receiver is in the first round when you just paid $100M to your #1 WR and you also have another guy that will probably command more looks in Gallup. The right call would have been to trade down for more value. I'm not questioning the guy's talent but the return he will provide when Dallas is a run first with Zeke.
I’m not even surprised you’re the one complaining. We just secured a top ten talent at 17 and you’re complaining.

Insurance? You don't draft a WR in the first round to be insurance, you expect him to be a starter. Cooper just got paid and Gallup will also be paid in about 3 years. Neither receiver is going anywhere. If Dallas is in a win now mode after dropping 90M on Zeke, 100M on Cooper what's the logic of drafting a W3 in the top 20? Especially when they have needs in many areas. This was a vanity pick just like when we drafted Felix Jones to be a 3rd down back.

We needed a replacement for Cobb. Lamb was BPA and we needed a slot receiver. The Cowboys filled a lot of holes with FA this year so they could go for BPA, and that's what they did. I don't see that as a vanity pick.
Yes a lot of us would like to have seen a good defensive pick, hopefully they'll still make some good defensive moves.
But meanwhile, when the BPA is a guy like CeeDee Lamb and he falls into your lap, you gotta go BPA. He'll be a beast in the slot.

But without not only replacing but upgrading from Cobb, the offense was going to take a big step backwards. Cedric Wilson or a 5th rounder as your starting slot doesn’t do much

That will be true with most rookie receivers.

How do you think his RAC will be when his QB always throws behind him?

No, you didn't on only say another receiver is going to fix the issue. You said "it's all on Dak mostly. Are you saying that only applies with Dak, and with other QBs the overall team matters? And you said Dak can't score TD's yet he threw more TD passes than all but 3 QBs last year.

By the way, if the losses are "all on Dak mostly", then the wins in other years are also "all on Dak mostly", right?

I get if you think WR wasn't the right way to go. We all know the defense needs help. And I get not being completely sold on Dak. But you can do that and still be fair minded.

Applies to every QB. And I wouldn't pay most. Fortunately I only care when they are on my team. Love Brees but I wouldn't pay him 35, or Brady.

Top 10 at 17 is pretty amazing. Now if we do as well Friday as we did in the 1st round, we could end up with a fantastic draft!

you don’t have to buy anything. It was an incredible pick / value and you’re a dunce if you think otherwise. (Or by your posting history, other thoughts etc).

Never said it wasn't a great value in regards to selecting the best player on the board. Only you'll have diminished returns from it. Expect that to change after 2 years when either gallop or Cooper leaves.

Truly shocked that Lamb was sitting there at 17. He wasn't just BPA, but arguably a top 10-12 ranked player.

He is the sort of player that JJ would have sold the the farm in a move up the draft to get him - that is, if WR was a dire need.

No doubt in my mind this was a great pick.

Quote from Sturm's draft gameplan yesterday in The Athletic:

"This top group consists of players who have almost no chance of getting to No. 17:

Joe Burrow, Chase Young, Isaiah Simmons, Jedrick Wills, Jeffrey Okudah, Derrick Brown, CeeDee Lamb and, yes, Jerry Jeudy"

Sturm should have a glowing write-up of this pick today
