this guy is going to have a tough time making the team. maybe he will play hard enough to get on the practice squad.

Such a cliche thing to say about late round picks. Come up with original material.

I’m sure next year’s draft will have a dip in terms of the quality of depth at every position.
Next year's draft could be a really weird one depending on what happens with the 2020 college football season. Assuming they have a season and there's 2020 film on all the picks at all, if the season is played after a huge chunk of the kids let their physical fitness dip during the strange offseason.

With the health/safety issues, you've got a ton of young athletes with the maturity and work ethic of kids who were left to motivate themselves to figure out how to workout and stay in good shape despite gyms being less available, and despite proper food perhaps being less feasible. It could be a season where half the college football population shows up wildly out of shape and has an off year because of it, meaning 2020 film could be full of guys looking better or worse than they otherwise would have. Teams might rely on older film more, which would help some players and screw others.

So the 2021 draft could be a real crapshoot with game film being less available (if not all programs play) or less reliable than usual (if some guys play worse because they fell out of shape in the offseason, or if some guys look artificially good taking advantage of opponents who didn't stay in normal shape).

Spot on again.

I know folks are excited because they recognize the name and see the production but he’s bad bodied tweener with marginal athleticism. If you watch his game cut ups snap after snap it’s pretty rough to watch.

That said, the team has absolutely murdered this draft.

"bad bodied tweener" ???

He has almost identical height, weight and arm length to Chaisson.

He had 30 sacks in college playing Division I football.

I watched 3 full games. I don't know what is "rough to watch"

"rough to watch" was Chaisson vs Giants new OT Thomas while I was thinking Chaisson was the most likely player to be picked at #17 by the Cowboys.

I mean, it might depend how Nolan looks at him and what he plans to do defensively. If we're gonna implement 3-4 fronts, it's not hard at all to slot the kid into a LB roster spot and easily pencil him onto the roster assuming he shows up looking anything like what we expect.

DE is more crowded, but we have no idea which players Nolan will prefer. If Gregory and Aldon are both reinstated and look good enough to roster them, it gets very crowded. Does Nolan like what he sees in Dorance Armstrong and Joe Jackson and Jalen Jelks? If we keep Crawford as a reliable, unsexy veteran option with versatility... does Nolan see Crawford as more of a DE or as a DT?

I could easily see Anae quickly becoming a new favorite who's got an easy spot waiting for him, depending on how it turns out Nolan looks at our roster and what kinds of schemes he's got planned. But I could also see him being crowded out by the other guys if we talk ourselves into hanging onto some of the holdovers, and if both the trouble problem players get reinstated and take up roster spots.

I would love to see them let Crawford play one position, whether it is DT or DE. The moving him all over nonsense does him no favors. If he is playing DE, he needs to get lighter. If he is playing DT, he needs to fatten up a bit. Some of the issues with him is they ask him to do one...and then they use him as the other. With this influx of talent, leave him at DT. And if he isn't clearly better than what we have...cut him and save the cap space.

This is definitely a case for me where I read the scouting reports and decided he wasn't for me. Then I started looking at some of the videos and to me it is like they aren't the same person. HE has good get off, does beat guys with speed at times but he has very developed pass rushing moves...a lesson to me to look at both sides of evaluations.

Amazing. What a draft this year.

What is surprising is seeing the team take guys who aren't all star athletes. Seems like they've got a bit more balance this year between production and potential

he looks good in the videos I am watching but if both smith and Gregory get reinstated he going to have to excel on special teams or be a practice squad guy. hopefully he stays with team either active or practice sqad and maybe makes an impact in his second year.

Do you think before posting?

The Cowboys had 6 DEs on the 53 man roster last season.

Right now they have:
DLaw
Crawford (returning from a season on IR. Best as run downs DE and passing downs DT)
Armstrong: Rotational player in 2019. Played 24% of the snaps.
Jackson: Active for 5 games. Played 7% of the snaps.

Aldon Smith: Currently suspended. Has not played the past 4 seasons.
Randy Gregory: Currently suspended.
