Don’t think they are much in a hurry to do anything with Crawford. Why - they aren’t signing Griffin or Clowney. My best guess in they see what the NFL does with Smith and Gregory before any decision is made. I know Dallas values his leadership but coming off double hip surgery he might not me good enough to make the team.

I wouldn't cut him for an inferior player.

I'd cut him so I can sign Everson Griffen, who is a better player and fills a glaring need.
He wouldn’t be cut for him though. At least as it currently stands. They’d cut one of these other guys for him like Jelks or Jackson.

I'm hoping that it's because current conditions have made it difficult for him to get a physical (or that he's not healthy enough to pass one). And that once he can pass a physical, he'll be released, just like Cam Newton was. I think the team would prefer that to having to make an injury settlement.

Why? If you have your actual starter at RDE, what do you need Crawford for?

And yiu and I both know that they've been wrong here for years. Just because they do something doesn't make it smart.

Which 'guys' are you referring to?

Cutting him for the COST of it.

After the draft, we're already talking about taking 13 defensive linemen to camp. More than enough to replace this one.
What’s the cost though? He has one year left on his deal right? They are in a good cap situation....

He needs to either be cut or have his salary halved. He's not worth the 8m none guaranteed portion of his contract. That 8m is better spent on someone else IMO.

We know this needs to happen but Dallas has to pick right time for it. Did they do enough in draft to make that call to Crawford? Gregory & Smith are still unknowns but Dallas did sign two DT in FA then added two more DL in draft. I think Dallas is close to having enough leverage to ask Crawford to cut his salary in half. Then Dallas has about $14 million to make run at Griffen?
True. He's the most overpaid player in team history soon to be surpassed by Dak.

$8 million in salary. More I think than 2020's cost of McCoy and Poe combined.

Far, far more than what he's worth.

Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe.

Both.

Those two combined cost less than this bum does.

Something else you obviously didn't know.

That would be foolish. Why take a 9MM cap hit for Crawford when he'd be relegated to a backup DT at this point and likely not play much to any DE at all?

They have 10MM in space now. They could cut Crawford and bring in Griffen, which would be a massive upgrade at DE, and still have that cap space cushion.

I don’t understand is his contract stopping us from signing someone? I can see if he had 3 years left on his deal but he doesn’t.

Can the team roll the money over?

Can they use that $8 million elsewhere?

Can they sign a free agent or extend one of their players with that money next year?

The answer is yes.

It all counts.

Understand now?
