Where do you get crybaby from? That was Taco sulking about his playing time and being inactive.
There's a lot of rumors about Hill for whatever reason. I have yet to hear anything confirmed about him just a lot of assumptions. .
Nice insider info about Hill’s moodiness here, starts at about 36:30
http://www.espn.com/espnradio/play?id=29105143

Also here’s some general personality traits reported from whispers from the star:

https://cowboyszone.com/threads/jjt-whispers-from-the-star-3-6-2020.453670/

“3. Trysten Hill is reportedly a weird guy. Not weird like Amari. Amari is just quiet. Amari likes hanging with his nieces and nephews, he likes boutique shopping, he likes playing chess, and a few other things. Trysten Hill, by all accounts, is a loner. JJT mentions that being that type of person can work for you in sports like baseball and basketball because there is a lot of emphasis on individual play. In football, where it's team oriented from the top to the bottom, it can create some issues for you, and it certainly can affect the way your teammates view you.”

His biggest problem was strength. He’s got to be able to stay on his feet. He does have that really quick first step.

This should be a big offseason for him. If he’s worked hard, he needs to first make the active roster. My guess is we look at trading him to Las Vegas at cutdowns for an equivalent bag of beans from their roster like we did a few years back.

agreed. He is going to have to bring it though. There’s legit competition for roster spots at DT.

Poe and McCoy are starters. You have Gallimore who is a lock as a 3rd round rookie.

Antuan Woods, Tyrone Crawford depending how you view him, Justin Hamilton, etc.

There won’t be any gimme roster spots

He is going to have to pick it up if he is going to jump Woods and Gallimore in the rotation and possibly Crawford depending on what happens at RDE.

Right now I would think the rotation would be Poe / Woods and McCoy / Gallimore

Hill just turned 22.
He's younger than the DT we just drafted.

He's a victim of being our top pick in a draft where we didn't select until late 2nd round.
For guys 300+ it takes time to get that grown man strength.
People wanna bash him as immature but he was literally 3-4 years younger than ANY DTs we played.

The only Cowboy listed on the roster under 22 is CeeDee Lamb.

Agreed. If he doesnt show improvement and there's 5 DTs clearly hustling harder then he might end up back on the inactive list. Competition is gonna be tough

Crawford should volunteer to cut his pay in half.

Otherwise, he's just a blight to the franchise!

He can't pass rush; all he can do is play the run.

To do that, he simply needs to regain his weight.

Here is the thing.. He was bad last year but this forum has kind of gone extreme with it and we’re already writing him off.
We call it like we see it. His rookie year sucked all around.

He didn’t look like he didn’t belong in the NFL by any means.

He’s on a contract and we just need to hope he matures and we see a little progress next year.

Im not rooting for anyone to fail but it’s on him to turn it around not me.

This year means everything for him. The guy who brought it is gone.

Maybe Tomsula can help him

if it was you, would you volunteer to cut your pay in half?

Maybe Rod can brainwash Gruden into trading Crosby for Hill.

I definitely think he is. The team has to take the time to see at this point. He's here, and hopefully he's ready to work?!

Anyone is salvagable...they gotta put in the work though. The trick to becoming a superstar isn't raw talent or draft prdigree...its your work ethic and drive to get better.

Yes.

Problem with Cowboys Coaching
  • The Cowboys drafted him to play 3tech DT.
  • He practiced at 3tech in training camp and all off-season.
  • He played at 3tech in the preseason games.
  • Marinelli put him at 1tech when he played regular season games.
  • Switching position during the season is a problem for most rookies.
  • Switching positions for a rookie that was already known at draft time to need more time than average to adjust to the NFL was just dumb.

Review of Hill
  • Marinelli said during the season that Hill had the willingness to do it and a high motor but just wasn't "getting it".
  • Hill's 2nd D-Coordinator in college gave a glowing report on him in an interview after the draft in terms of motor, etc.
  • There were 2 issues with Hill in college.
    • 1. He was slow to adapt to change. The new staff wanted him to rusher the passer as a 3tech DT. The previous staff played him as a 3-4 NT.
    • 2. He got angry when the new coaching staff would not let him transfer. He loved the original coaching staff. That got him in the new Head Coach's doghouse.
  • Hill was ok physically when he did play.
  • Part of the issue was that the Cowboys defense was already out of sorts with Kris Richard trying to make changes without actually being the D-Coordinator.
    • The biggest weakness for the Cowboys defense was defending the run vs zone running teams.
    • Hill's biggest problem in the preseason was playing against zone running teams.
Great write up X!

Do you see him as a 1 or 3 this year?

This is the key. You would think he would be motivated right now? but you never know..
