Still just mystified that a transaction like this gets people to jumping to conclusions that are not real.
You shouldn’t be. You’ve been here as long as I have. You know the kind of ideas that go through people’s minds over the simplest things.

Hey, he was with the Bengals and he's a year or 2 rental until we find another guy. Dak is out of here

Don't take that check to the bank yet, it'd probably bounce. Dalton is here as a #2. If anything, it may help bring Dak back to the table a little sooner because if he continues to hold out long enough, he knows the team now has a better option than Rush.
Dak is still #1 if he signs.

Last season 27 QB's with 300 or more pass attempts

Dalton ranked 27th in passer rating. 24th in completion percentage, 23rd in average yards per attempt, 22nd in INT's.

Congratulations on finding the only veteran starter in the league that Cooper Rush can actually beat out for the backup job.

Meanwhile, Dak in contract limbo as Jerry Jones throws three million dollars in the trashcan.

The only negative I see with this signing is that even after Dallas signs Dak, when he has a bad game, this site will be barraged with "Dalton should start" posts. Since some are already saying it, we probably won't even have to wait until a bad game. Some will be crying when Dallas signs Prescott to a market-value deal, which is what they will eventually do.

There's only a slim chance that a deal doesn't get done because Dak wants too much. Again, like with Lawrence last year, what's happening right now is just typical for negotiations. Neither side bends until it has to.

Sure, in the sense that a coach would want a good backup. Remember 2015? Weedrn, Cassel and Moore. Total disaster.

Right. I think the move is based on McCarthy wanting a better option, not the front office. But I could be wrong. It seems like Dalton wanted to be here, so it may just be one of those situations where the pieces kind of fell into place.

100%

And if Dak burns the bridge with Dallas over a crazy inflated contract— you have covered yourself with a vet with a ton of starting experience.
Yeah, there is nothing to not like about this deal.

Backup who could win games for Dallas. Much better than Rush.

Inexpensive contract for the team for an experienced, smart guy.

Covers the team in case Dak’s holdout keeps him out of team workouts.

Chance to get compensatory pick when he leaves next year.

Great move all the way around.

So let me get this straight. Nobody wants to pay Dak 35 million....but the Cowboys with the franchise tag are paying Dak 32 million, Rush 2 million and Dalton 3-7 million? Is this right.
