He wants to make a chunk now and have another opportunity later. I get it. His Mato is "I bet on myself". If Dallas is investing it wants more rental space

Dak is a very smart individual he knows he has about 2 shots in life. Just envoys cowboys fans.

There are a lot of people outside but you don't see a lot of people in crowds. I don't know if 1-2 infections in teams or players could derail plans. At this juncture and the current environment it very well could. I would say more but it will get deleted. Just say there are no sure things!
95% of the Cowboys fan base goes to zero NFL games.
We are not going to see a major impact for the NFL because it is the kind of top of the pile too big to fail org that will be protected and will draw up whatever available entertainment dollars as do exist.

Within the next 6 months you will almost certainly see Dak and then Pat sign the largest NFL deals ever signed.
Within 2 years you will see an NFL streaming rights deal signed that is the largest in broadcast history.
Amazon prime versus Hulu versus Netflix versus ESPN/Disney.

I'm not worried about people watching on TV. I'd be worried about how much advertisers are going to be willing to pay. They are already cutting back their budgets.
the next major deal won't be for antiquated over the air broadcasts. --ad revenue is paid to those mediums not the league.
ad budgets will absolutely be down for 2021 for most companies and we could see most work forces taking a 10% pay reduction.

the average American will simply stay home and watch more live sports, play more video games and binge more netflix/hulu/disney.

we just saw a major recession in 2008.
the NFL was of course fine.

Regardless of the reason, he still hasn't signed.

Wentz and Goff, both from his draft class are under new contracts and Dak is still waiting. Makes no sense.

What doesn't make sense? Those two said yes and all Dak has said is no even though the deal is comparable. The team can't force him to sign a deal. They have made several market value offers and Dak keeps turning them down. There seems to be no give with Dak's side. If you get the money you want, you should given a little on the structure to ease the cap. If they won't give you the money you want, then you make them structure it to your benefit to get as much money as quick as you can. Dak apparently wants both his way. That's why he hasn't signed.

the back up is on a one year deal, older, just got cut and has proven he is not capable of winning. he is a game manager at best, now even less at his age. he is not going to lead you to promise land....
The incumbent here is the same player as the one you’re trying to dismiss so we should pay him all this money because? At the same point in their careers they had similar stats winning wise (didn’t look it up either other stats people said so) so like ive been saying they along with Kirk Cousins and Alex Smith are the same players some of y’all are just blind or worse to Dak because of emotions.

Sorry i will clear this question up.

Are you implying this is becoming a racial issue? Because I see many black sports commentators starting to take this angle within the last week. Shannon & Steven A.

Trying to destroy Cowboy Nation Unity

How are they trying to destroy unity even though I agree with you. I don’t like exaggerations though because two people aren’t many sir.

The Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott are not far apart on the terms of a new deal.
They apparently haven’t been far for a while now. The market is essentially dictating the price to both parties so the average annual compensation and guaranteed cash are basically spelled out.

So contrary to popular belief, it’s not Dak’s outrageous demands or selfishness or greed that’s holding this up. It’s the length of the deal. Rather than asking for more Dak’s actually asking for less. Try that on for size, Dak haters.

Now before we throw him a parade and add him to the Christmas card list, let’s be clear: this isn’t about sacrifice or altruism. This is good business from Dak Prescott’s camp. A short-term deal may offer less overall dollars, but if Dak continues to perform as he’s been, he stands to make considerably more overall getting to the free agent market again as quickly as possible.

That’s where the two parties are at the impasse.

Dak has on the table, we believe, a $35M APY offer with $106M+ g'teed. With an argument about 4 v 5 years. So, @Boys_Vox 's right – there's no 'disrespect' in that. https://t.co/voVx1G9rFk

Multiple reliable sources have indicated, for quite a while now, the Dallas Cowboys want to sign Dak to a 5-year deal while Dak wants a 4-year deal. Each day that goes by Dak seems to get a little more leverage so it seems wise to explore what that extra year is worth on the market, right?

jesus H would you nimrods stop with the "take that haters" crap? I dont hate Dak but Im starting to hate people like you

I don't see much in terms of leverage. Dak will sign at some point be it the Franchise tag or a long term deal. I think both sides would prefer the longer term deal so one Dallas is not hit with a lump sum of the franchise tag of 30 some odd mill. I think Dallas would rather see a deal done to spread the cap hit over a period of time, I think it gives the team more freedom with their cap doing it this way. For Dak it gives more security than a 1 year deal especially given the guaranteed sum of 106 mill. Either way Dak ends up with a big payday. As for Dalton again I think he would have been signed of another FA vet QB regardless of Dak contract for the simple reason, Dallas had no legit backup at one of the most critical position on the team. I don’t see an UDFA or a rookie 7th rd QB as a real option at backup. Dalton gives Dallas that security should Dak get injured and comes at a very cheap price for a backup QB
I agree it is easily in the best interest of both parties to get Dak signed to a contract rather than play on the franchise tag. That doesn't really benefit either side - no longer term assurances for either. But I do think Dak's leverage was partly based on the Cowboys having no viable option at QB if he doesn't sign, and that has changed with the signing of Dalton. I don't mean by that the Cowboys will just blow off Dak and what he wants, or that they won't continue to try and work out a deal, but does at least put a chip on the Cowboys side of the table.

You guys do not understand basic economics if you truly believe this.

The NFL may have a 1 year dip for sure but even that is unlikely.
The biggest thing in the ENTIRE world right now is entertainment.
It is making MORE money.
An NFL game played today would be MORE watched than ANY Super Bowl.

I absolutely understand basic economics. 35 years ago I was homeless. Today, at 53, I am retired and never have to work another day in my life if I don't choose to. I didn't do that without some basic understanding of how to earn money and put it to work for me.

If, for some reason, the NFL didn't get to play this season or played a seriously shortened season, Dak's lost revenue can't just be made up in such a short career. Now, let's couple that potential loss with less marketability if Dak exits this contract process as less of a fan favorite. Advertisers are fickle. ANY loss in that revenue comes straight out of Dak's pocket. Now, back to basic economics. Assuming Dak had taken less last year...say 2 or even 3 million a year less. Let's say that he got the same signing bonus as Goff...25 million dollars. The S&P last year hit right at 18.5%. Dak could have potentially made up any lost salary in interest alone. At a minimum he will have lost very, very little in personal wealth by earning interest on money he controls. Not to mention that any cash he has on hand is at less risk that money he does not have and has not yet earned.

I would have absolutely signed last year and taken less per year. I would have asked for more of a signing bonus in return. I would have taken advantage of the unique opportunities that marketing myself as a team-first player brings...which 100% carries over into his retirement. Not only would I have more money today, I would have MUCH more control over that money.

Basic economics is more that just making sure you hold out for the biggest check. There are far more variables at play here. Dak is putting a great deal at risk for little or no gain.

I still don't understand why they didn't place the NON-EXCLUSIVE Tag on him. Look, I'm a fan of Dak, but as a business man, I would've done EVERYTHING to take away his leverage. Bidding against yourself for someone's services doesn't create leverage. The league would've helped this whole process move a LOT faster had they had a chance to show the Cowboys...…...and, even more importantly, Dak and his team...……….how much they value him (in terms of $$$ and/or draft capital).

Cmon, if you have any sense, that is just a pipe dream for you that Dak leaves. No way it happens. Dak gains leverage because TC and the season draws near.

Now signing Dalton does make things better for the Cowboys, but if Jerry feels we are capable of doing something special, he knows he needs Dak.

Even if fans like you dont agree.

Or maybe he realizes you can't accomplish anything special paying an average player at the top of his position.

In ways I think Dak is taking a major chance on a 4 year deal. Look if it plays out the way he envisions it in terms of his level of play and the fortunes of this team winning a championship he would have a chance at another big contract at the end of 4 years. However he also risk that he does not elevate his play and the team continues to come up short, his value will be, well the same as Dalton is now. At the end of 4 years he will be 30 and have QB this team for 8 years and if there is nothing to show for it then he likely will be looking for a backup QB elsewhere. So it is a gamble on the part of Dak more so than by the Cowboys.

This is an immeasurably stupid approach by Prescott's camp.

"If he continues to perform as he has, he stands to earn considerably more..."

I don't know about that. First, the cap needs to continue to grow, which is likely but still.

Secondly, if his performance is of status quo...building stats against weaker teams and when down several scores...sure, someone may want to pay him...BUT...that also implies he still hasn't gotten deep into the playoffs, and that's the key.

Playoff success isnt fully in Prescotts hands, and if he doesnt achieve it, and being that much older...I'm not so sure it's not the best move to grab as much as you can right now.

How many NFL players have become wealthy on a THIRD NFL contract as opposed to a second?

What about injury preventing him from him getting that third contract?

Maybe they cash in, but it sounds like pure greed to me, because Prescott and his next several generations can be financially set with what Jones is offering now....and they are balking.

I just dont see greed working out, because that's really all it is, and not smart business.

The Cowboys can back off a bit now and take a deep breath and come to their senses on whether to spend that much on Dak. No rush to sign him.-

I agree it’s hard ball time. They have good offers on the table. A tantalizing set of skill players. A good OL. Tons of endorsement opportunities. They have a QB guru as a head coach. It really is a perfect situation. If Dak is too stupid to see this and needs to eke out a couple more million a year then let him go. Newman and or Mond could be available next year. Keep Dalton around another year or 2. There is life after Dak. It has really become ridiculous.

EXACTLY! There's no way I would risk getting that signing bonus into my bank account...the sooner the better. I had slowly moved all in on Dak, but I honestly think this is incredibly short-sighted of him. So short sighted it makes me question his decision making. And the signal it sends to fans...20% of them possibly completely out of work...is one of greed. I think it's bad for the players and for the NFL as a whole.

I keep seeing this "WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN???!!!" reasoning in regards to Dak's situation and what's going on in the country and although I feel for those who are having a tough time, the NFL hasn't been majorly affected yet so players aren't responsible for giving a flying flip about some "signal" envious fans get as they handle their own PERSONAL business. The business that can still go on, goes on as it has. Hospital bills aren't going down, so why should any other business that operates a full or near full capacity?

The reality is that neither Dak nor Andy will lead you to the promised land. The difference is that with Andy you only lose one year and 7 million at most. With Dak you lose 4-5 years and over 100 million. Dak lost a lot of leverage with the Dalton signing. Dalton is arguably the best back-up in the league. With this talent and coaching around him, which he never had in Cincy, he has the talent and experience to perform at Dak’s average level for 2 years. And without the financial burden.

You mean Zeke out a couple more million ?

Really, how much does one person really need if they want to play for a specific team ? Maybe Dak should look elsewhere.
