McCarthy and Nolan have never been on the same coaching staff. Not once. This is without a doubt a Jones hire.

It should mean something to you, past performance is the best indicator of future performance. Way better than hoping and praying.

McCarthy was the offensive coordinator on Nolan's San Francisco 49ers staff. Get your fact straight.

Rod inherited one of the worst defenses in the league, improved every single season, then it dropped off again once he lost DC duties to Richard. Not sure your point.

But your agenda looks clear. A sad attempt to defend Rod Marinelli.

I think our talent level on Defense is 3rd in the NFCE ,just being average is ok for his first year.

Rod wasn't mentioned once in the OP, and I didn't bring him. Just responding to most responses. Hasn't been mentioned since.

Good try though. Lol.

He's a bum who was coaching linebackers for the last few years because he's always been a bum. If his last name wasn't Nolan, I doubt he would even be coaching, to be honest.

With that said, it is clear that this was a Big Mike move, and not a Jerry move.
I can't say he's a bum. A lot of people give him credit for what he did with the Saints linebackers. I guess he's like Maranelli of linebackers. Can get the most out of what he has.

For the life of me I can't understand how George Edwards goes from DC of the Vikings to being a coach in Nolan's defense.......

You think this was a Jerry hire?
I have no idea. There has to he a stronger connection somewhere, right? One season fifteen seasons ago seems free fetched.

MccCarthy was HC for more than a decade in GB and never brought Nolan in. It just doesn't add up.

One year, fifteen years ago. Again, this wasn't a McCarthy hire.

You said he did not work with him fact is your clueless. McCarthy hired him to be the DC.

The Cowboy have their new head coach, Mike McCarthy. McCarthy immediately expressed interest in signing Saints linebacker coach Mike Nolan. While head coach and general manager of the 49ers he hired Mike McCarthy as his OC.

Yes it was. McCarthy has his whole coaching staff picked prior to taking the position of HC.
Is that true or assumption?

Not disagreeing with you. I personally think McCarthy is getting far too much credit for things that would probably happen if he wasn't here. I think his impact will be felt on Sunday's for sure but this offseason.......I still feel its Jerry and co. making these moves and acquisitions.

Mike Nolan to the Packers looked to be a sure thing just a week ago, but now Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy will have to look elsewhere for his next defensive coordinator.

The former 49ers head coach will be the new defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, according to the NFL Network. Nolan will join the staff of new Denver head coach Josh McDaniels, who just landed his first head coaching job at the age of 32.

In all honesty, I'm a little disappointed we let Nolan get away. I was excited to see him team back up with his buddy McCarthy, and also to see how he'd work the 3-4 scheme into Green Bay. I wonder if this was a result of McCarthy not wanting Nolan to join him, Packers GM Ted Thompson wanting to go in a different direction, or Nolan's desire to be in Denver. We'll have to wait and see.

There's more articles from 2009 that hinted Nolan and McCarthy could of joined up again in Green Bay

So, I do disagree with @QuincyCarterEra that this was purely a Jones hire. Maybe Jones liked Nolan too but there was talk of Nolan going to Green Bay but it never actually happened.

I think there is definitely some reasons to be concerned about Nolan. He's never really consistently fielded good to great defenses. That's not to say it might not work here but IMO, people are acting like he's a slam dunk hire and I am not sure that's the case.

Then again, maybe they aren't looking for Nolan to field some Baltimore level defense. Maybe they just want him to dial up a defense that gets to the QB and gets turnovers to pair with an elite offense. So if we give up 25 points a game and 390 yards, great........... as long as we create turnovers and sacks.

I think this is going to be the key.

honestly I think the plan ultimately is that the defense is going to give up some points. But if they can force a couple turnovers a game and give the offense some short fields to work with. We can out score the opponents.

Happens every year. Whoever is new here gets a **** ton of credit for everything and is always overhyped. This includes free agents, the draft class, new coaches, everything. While what we've had in place gets all the blame. If there's ever a bad free agent signing or draft pick "this has Jerry's finger prints all over it" then we have a slam dunk pick and "Will McClay is a god".

Well I’m assuming but considering he spent a year off working with coaches he knew what he wanted to do.
