Very solid argument.

We can all disagree on how good Dak is. But there really is NO argument for how much they wasted having the CHEAPEST starting QB in the league for 4 years that was producing at Dak’s level. Just thrown in the trash by Garrett and co.

Of course. They also wasted the career of a top 5, borderline elite QB in Romo. So, it’s not surprising.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but:
Dak Year 1: Romo on the team at full contract
Dak Year 2: Romo retired but was really a post June 1 cut leaving the rest of his salary split between this year and
Dak Year 3: This year

I believe that during Dak's first 3 years, Romo cost the cowboys $41m.

While Dallas wasn't paying Dak much at all, they still were paying a good bit for the QB position. Believe it or not, Romo's cap number was almost as much as Tom Brady's during the 3 years after Romo stopped playing (41m vs 49m).

Well there you go, you pretty much just nailed it right there.

You can have a rookie on cheap money all you want, but if you don't handle the salary cap well or if you don't have the team around the QB it doenst matter.

Nothing really matters if you don't do all the other things well. Having a cheap QB means little.

However, this is why I am so against paying any RB 15 million dollars. Dumb way to spend the money when you are trying to build a SB team.

Yeah this is true. I'm just hoping it had a lot to do with the coaching staff I hated since 2013. But the Zeke contract isn't that bad. It doesn't start until 2021. He was still playing on the 4th year of his rookie deal in 2019 plus signing bonus. This year his cap hit is what it would be on the 5th year option plus part of the signing bonus. It's really just 2021 and 2022 when his contract actually goes into effect. Cap hit of 13.7 and 16.5. Dallas can release him after that.

I can't argue with facts...good points. But sadly Jerry was hamstrung by his history (Emmitt) and an average Coach who couldn't convince Jerry otherwise
And the fact we saw what Dak was without Zeke. That’s truly what it was all about. The same reason we had to sign Cooper. To prop Dak up.

Paying a RB 15 million is dumb unless you have a QB you’re fixing to pay over 30 million who needs that threat behind him to be more effective.

What’s really laughable is we have a GM and VP, Football Idiot and Son, who wage their negotiations in the media attempting to gain public support and influence while exposing their intentions.

Dalton is not asking for 35 million plus. And marvin lewis might be as bad a coach as Garrett.

So what you're saying is it's a team sport and the losses shouldn't fall on the QBs shoulders?

The prosecution rests your honor.

Actually you would be wrong, Dak is one of my favorite players on the team and I have his jersey hanging in my closet that I wear on game days.

But that has nothing to do with my argument you failed to address.

For 4 years the Cowboys had one of the cheapest starting QBs in the entire NFL and they did nothing with that huge advantage like other teams have.
Somewhere there's a ginger clapping over this statement.

No. That's not what i said at all. We were talking about 2 qb's, not the team. And 2 hc's. Keep your day job. You wouldn't make a good litigator. Besides, they're already too many.:)

Don't be shocked if the FO lets the upcoming season proceed under the tag. Maybe they'll find out exactly what they've got!

I would be shocked. I 100% believe Dak gets a long term deal.

Of course. Instead of arguing my message you’re going to insult me personally instead. Are you going to troll me since you don’t agree?

There is no salient argument to be made with those calling others idiots. In any case, i just made a blanket statement. No names were given to protect the innocent.

Very simple for me. If Dak signs the tender, so be it. Then he gets a year to prove he can get that 35+ million dollar deal. If he doesn't then he sits out, he only hurt himself. Cause next year nobody is going to pay him 35+ on the open market. Then we have Dalton. Or he could sign in the 30 mil range.

Bottom line we are bidding against ourselves here. We have the leverage, there is no reason to overpay Dak. I don't think they're is a team in football that would give him more than 30 mil on the open market.
Maybe the Brooklyn Giants.

$40 mil/yr from zero is still zero.

Then why don’t they rescind the offer and just go with Dalton?

Really? Even if they don’t believe he’s worth as much as you think, there must be other people, hopefully other organizations that want to have him as much as you do.

I feel so repetitive now days. You just need another franchise hopefully a handful to flip Dak for something in return. Come on, I don’t care if you love him or hate him, if you’re going to lose him you’re going to try to get what you can in return.

Forget this, what’s best for Dak. Dak will take care of himself, the Cowboys will take care of themselves. That’s why we’re in this situation. No ones budging.
