If there is one thing that I'll take to my grave that I'm most proud of, its that I'll never have seen even 10 seconds of any Star Wars movie made....and I will be 57 this month. Is anyone with me on this, or does anyone know anyone like me? I've always been curious how many others like me are out there...let me here from ya.

I've seen every Star Wars movie, but I don't feel like I'd be missing out on much if I hadn't.

Star Trek, on the other hand, is brilliant, and there's enough real science and theory for some people to learn a thing or two.

Forgot to mention….I've never seen one episode of Star Trek either. I've scene two (2) Sci-Fi movies in my life....Close Encounters and Logans Run....the later because I was 13 and Farrah Fawcett was in it.

You're missing out on some fun, thought provoking stuff. So have you never seen Back to the Future or The Matrix?

So, you're saying you take pride in being a hater of Sci-Fi? heh For what reason? Seems like there is a lot better things to rail against than that.

That's amusing. You should put that in @timb2's Truthful Answers thread.

Me? I love Sci-Fi. I go to sleep most nights to Star Trek. I'm a Star Wars fan too, but there is just more Star Trek content and I prefer the Utopian society they are building in Star Trek. (well, until Picard and Discovery came out haha)

I have no idea why anyone would brag about that.
Maybe the newer ones are whatever they are, but the first one in 1977 was a story of triumph on a minuscule budget, with mostly nobodies as actors, with giant dreams.
That alone should inspire one to watch it.

Right there with you. I don't dislike sci fi altogether but never really been a huge fan of Star Wars or Star Trek.

Action. Adventure. Anime. Comedy. Crime. Drama. Fantasy. Historical. Horror. Mystery. Romance. Saga. Satire. Thriller. Urban. Western.

Science Fiction.

All of the above (and more) are simply types of entertainment.

That is it. Nothing more. Nothing less.

It is one thing to enjoy or not enjoy a certain film, television show, etc. It's cool. Someone's trash can be someone else's treasure. That has been true for entertainment before movies and television ever existed.

It is another thing. It is the exact opposite thing. It is illogical to dismiss any genre simply for existing.

Is a movie entertaining? Is a television show entertaining? That should be the focus.

Nope! I knew this was going to push some buttons, and draw some of you off sides. 1st down and 5, me.

BTW, maybe I wouldn't rail against if I wasn't bombarded 24/7 with non-stop Star Wars talk for 2 months prior to EVERY new release....and then watching every TV station show the nerds that were lined up 2 days prior in full nerd getups...and then having to endure listening to every show on all the Dallas "All sports" stations review it ad nauseam. BTW, I quit watching make believe when I outgrew cartoons around age 10 or 11. Ok...let me have it.

So, you're actually saying you hate Fiction, not just Science Fiction.

However, there is Science Fiction out there that is thought provoking. There is Science Fiction that inspired the tech we have today. You like what you like, but your two big examples Star Wars and Star Trek are both closer to Science Fantasy than Science Fiction. The Expanse is Science Fiction....or at least a lot closer to Sc-Fi than either of the other two.

However, railing against and protesting something just because other people like it smacks of an immaturity just as deep as "watching make believe" :)

There’s plenty of great Sci Fi that is not Star Trek or Star Wars

Either way, I can’t imagine why anyone would be “proud” to not have ever seen at least one movie.
My,life would be fine without either, but to not watch ANY Sci Fi...ever as an adult?

The OP has a great opportunity for some serious binge TV. In some future lock-down scenario, he'll watch one episode of some Sci-Fi show and then not leave his sofa for 90 days.

haha....that ain’t happening. That “one” episode ain’t getting watched...if I was forced to do that, I’d quit watching TV all together...but that won’t happen, because they will never stop showing reruns of The Office. I wouldn’t even watch Sci-Fi cartoons...never watched any Super Hero cartoons...if something took place in space, or flew, or had super human strength, I was out on it. (Although Isis was hot because she was real...as in a real actor)

Comedy. That should be the focus.

Farrah Fawcett in Logans Run was ultimate hotness.

I take pride in never seeing a single episode of Game of Thrones.

Nah, it doesn't push my buttons. It's just seems like an odd things to spend energy hating on. It's almost like self-flagellation or something. You punish yourself as a principal and seem to take enjoyment from that. It's masochistic.

...but, to each their own. I prefer to take in life's little pleasures.
