The “refs are out to get us” evidence is actually thin

Of course it's silly. The idea that the league would purposely hold down its most popular team makes zero sense.

While I don’t believe in a league wide conspiracy I don’t care what the penalty totals are. I care about when they are called. And it always seems we get hosed by a brutal penalty at a horrible time in the game.
Precisely. To trot out number of penalties to prove the point is disingenuous. There are other metrics to use.

The Cowboys will be the most popular team regardless. It's well known the GODell and Jerry aren't buddies. Also the league could certainly be trying to get OTHER teams more popular.

I'm not saying the league is out to get Jerry. But of COURSE it is possible for officials to steer the game...intentionally or not.

How about finding out what penalties called on us were reviewed by the NFL and what was their findings?

When were the penalties called, what was the score.

Let me say that I don't think anyone is holding us down other than those who run this organization but it would not hurt this league to puporsley hold us down. They can build up the less popular teams and keep us down. What would it matter? The Cowboys would continue to hold on to their fanbase.

Timing. Yes we got away with some. The lions playoff game they picked up a flag and it was holding at least. What happened in the next game. The Dez catch. Non catch. And our happens on a 4th down. LP “moving” the ball on a game winning FG kick. Tripping calls. All during close games at crucial times..

What if it’s warranted?

I think part of it is the consistency and timing. If they are letting things go throughout the game but decide to toss a flag during a crucial moment I think its a wrong call to make even if by definition its correct. The Detroit game comes to mind for me. What gets talked about is the PI call since it was during the later 4th quarter and harder to overcome. I don't feel bad mind you, since Pettigrew had a face mask but it should have been a replay in downs. But that call was the big topic after the game, not the no-call DPI on Witten or the fact that the only reason Detroit had any points in the first half all came from botched calls/no calls. It's easier to make up for early bad calls than it is later ones.

What’s sad about it is that it happens in most games. Across the league. Makes it look like they are trying to swing the game or points. Can’t review everything or the games would last for 6 hours..

Thanks for linking to same posts I referenced!

Where’s the lie?

The screenshots are there.

Expose me.

What did I change?

Looool, you lying sack.

Congrats. You’ve got three active lies going on the forum right now (“Buh, buh, it means inpatient!”)

:lmao:
I saw that post change over time like it was a child growing, it does say last edited at the bottom too.

Yea, I never bought into the Conspiracy Theory. Dallas success is good for the league.

The fact Goodell has had to keep Jerry in check isn't enough to support those theories.

It's human nature for fans to blame a team's failure to make crucial plays on a referee. ;)

By and large, NFL referees are there because their history proves them to be reliable! o_O

Yeah it just takes that one awful call to ruin a year

Yep it was a catch but all Dez had to do was tuck and use his right hand to secure the catch to alleviate any doubt. That play will drive me crazy until my last day.

EXACTLY
Or some obscure ruling, or made up on the spot rule. Or a rule changed later to make it the right call (Dez catch rule, which became a Nono catch rule).

Because more people watch when they get screwed. Not that hard to figure out. Why do people watch shows like 90 day fiancé? To see what happens next.

LOL. So people watch looking for them to get screwed? Those are your feelings talking after a loss. No. More people watch the Cowboys, period. Why would you not want to have them in more post-season games if you're the league? By your own words, even IF more people watch for them to get screwed, the league would want them in the playoffs every year and have them make a few significant runs. More ratings = more $$$$. That was my point. The way you people make it seem, the league just targets them which would be dumb if they want to maximize viewers. This suspends logic and it does so because it's emotion-driven.

I think that is a perception based on how we, as Cowboy fans, react to penalties at key times. If the opponent gets called for a penalty at a key time, or if we are watching a game that doesn't involve the Cowboys and one of the teams gets called for a penalty at a key time, it doesn't trigger the same emotional response as when it happens to the Cowboys, and it doesn't stick in our minds the same as when it happens to the Cowboys, so the perception is that it happens more to the Cowboys even if that is not the case.

I'll repeat what I said. It is utter foolishness to think that penalties don't at times affect the outcomes of games whether they are penalties called or penalties that don't get called. If pebnalties have no affect on game outcomes then why have refs in the first place.
.

Yup, they do. The premise of the thread though is that the Cowboys are not some special target compared to other teams. If they were, it would be against the league's ratings objectives. Would you say that's true? People here can't claim that the league is all about money then come up with theories that fly in the face of that theory when it's convenient for making things look good.

------ Many teams, particularly the Packers, seem to get away with murder when they play us

The league loves them and protects them....how else can you explain a team going something like 8 or 9 straight games in 2016 without one single holding call against their Offensive Line??? You can't. And that Butler penalty was called at home!!!

i don't think it's been as bad the past few years as other stretches of time. I can remember in the 90's they basically ruined Kevin Smith ((i think that was his name, he was the cornerback opposite Deion) --- he got called for so much BS stuff for about 2 years in a row, and he was never the same. There was a stretch of games one season, probably about 8-10 years ago or thereabouts, it got so bad that one of the Cowboys beat writers actually wrote an article about it on Dallascowboys.com. In a nutshell, the calls in today's game are just bad overall. They had one chance last year to fix the most egregious call in all of sports (defensive pass interference) and they basically ignored it. And I'm ok with that, but if theyre going to treat that rule as they did, then just do away with instant replay altogether. Sometimes i feel like the refs are under so much pressure they lose their own train of thought on making calls correctly.
