Ah, gotcha.'Cause it's a 5-year proposal, not 4.
Ah, gotcha.'Cause it's a 5-year proposal, not 4.
apples and oranges
Those were extensions, not new contracts; so they did effectively lock up the players for 5 (or 6) years.
I don’t know is why I am asking.. I hear different things and not sure what is true. You can question anything if you want to believe the opposite.
This was big news at the time. That's why it shocks me when people start saying the Cowboys should have signed him pre 2019 season. They tried, and made a legit offer. It was not a lowball offer as some erroneously claim.
And since we have the power to match, I just don't comprehend giving him the exclusive tag.If Newton is still out there and Dalton had to take a lesser job, just what would the market have been had they tagged him with the non-exclusive tag as I wanted?
There are teams like BUF, NYJ, NYG, WAS, JAX that haven't made the call on whether they have their franchise QB. They lean in that direction but aren't 100% yet.
What teams might have made an offer and 2 1sts to sign Prescott? Is any team going to give him 110M over 4 guaranteed and give up 2 1st round picks? Would any team do either?
The other factor in this are the up and coming 1st contract affordable QB's like Mahomes, Jackson and Watson. Would a lowly team in need of a QB spring for Prescott or take their chances trying to get Lawrence or Fields in this draft?
There are only 2 QB's that I think are worth that 30M+ price because both are the reason their teams contend, they do it without stellar pb players. Rodgers and Wilson are the only two that have proven to me that they can elevate any team with just their presence at QB. And they've only been able to get one ring each.
Source is Todd Archer.I don’t know is why I am asking.. I hear different things and not sure what is true.
So he is legit. Or as legit as it gets. LolSource is Todd Archer.
At the end of the day he is going to be a multimillionaire. Lol.The one thing I do not agree with in this whole long and drawn out melodrama is anyone getting pissed at Prescott for wanting what he feels he's worth. Who are we to say what another man's worth?
Not one of us knows what's going through his mind throughout this entire process but he does know rumors keep surfacing about what he wants.
That process with Laveon Bell, most here were thinking he was nuts but do any of us know what the point was to him? Was it the offer they made weighed against other RB's or what they gave Rothliesberger and Brown and his importance to that offense and team.
And compare what we've heard to what Goff and Wentz got? The first 2 picks in that draft vs a 4th rounder and to this day it still sticks in Brady's craw that he lasted until the 6th and he uses that for motivation.
The QB is the ego position in all of sports, even more than the ace on a MLB team. We have no idea where Prescott's head and ego are at this point.
Werent goff and wentz extensions. I wonder if that screws with the numbers, or if that just puts signing bonus in there pockets.
Get it done last year would have been so much easier. Could have been a extension and gave us a extra year to spread some of the money. I would like to know what the number Dak wants is. Is it 35.I've read here that some fault management for not getting his done last season but Prescott declined and bet on himself and had his best season. He expects them to pay for that and they will and they know that and knew that at the time he declined their offer.
Imagine their chagrin when he has his best season and the team goes 8-8 in his contract year. And I am not talking stats but just watching him play.
They don't want to pay him top 3 money and they tried to get a better deal done but now they have no choice. I won't fault them for whatever they have to pay him but I will fault them for getting themselves in this position. They did this to themselves.
The guaranteed money was basically elapsed for those extensions....so in effect, they were locking the players up for 5 years for that 4-year extension. It would be like offering Dak this deal at the beginning of last year, but as a 4 year extension onto his remaining year. Not apples and oranges. They get that money quoted. So if you want to lock a player up for 5 years because you need to spread it out more, you need to up your guarantee to make it worth their while, not match it.
If I was JJ I would forget the 5 year. Go with a 4 year deal straight money. I heard something similar and the 5th year would pay him closer to 45 for that year. And the guaranteed money would be jacked way up.There was a thread that had an article written by an agent that spoke about what Dak should look for if the Cowboys want to offer a 5-year deal. He took cash flows, the QB market, guaranteed at signing, etc. into consideration. He stated that a comparative deal for 5 years might come close to 5 years / $190M with close to $130M in guarantees. Don't think the $38M annual will happen but any fair-minded person would know that the same guarantee for Goff in 4 years is not equal on a 5-year deal, extension or not.

Dak quit negotiating and said he'd play for 2 mil.So he is legit. Or as legit as it gets. Lol
I am guessing after goff got his deal. 34 a year and 112 in guaranteed would have gotten it done.
He already is through the endorsements and that is not all because he plays for the Cowboys as some pose. Think Prescott's story doesn't make people root for him? Now he has to contend with another painful layer within his family. At the end of the day he is going to be a multimillionaire. Lol.

Same guaranteed money and same 5-year term.
Either way, I don't really care.
If you think Dallas is somehow low-balling Dak with this offer, that's fine.
I do believe that his agent is giving advise that makes some look at him in a different way and may have cost him some money already and if so perhaps trying to make up for it now. Maybe. That shoulder injury last year could have been serious. And he has passed up some descent money.Dak quit negotiating and said he'd play for 2 mil.
I still believe he's getting terrible advice.
Can't say that until this deal is done. I am sure his agent ran all of the numbers by him and the risk factor with a QB playing through his contract year with a hot seat HC and first time OC.Dak quit negotiating and said he'd play for 2 mil.
I still believe he's getting terrible advice.
