Cant afford him! That the price you pay when your QB is getting market value money.

The entire point is he wants to be paid now.

Cant deal for him unless a new contract is part of it.

Exactly. Some people still fail to realize that when you trade significant draft capital, you have to extend that player and end up giving them all the leverage in negotiations if you don't get the extension done at the time of the trade.

See Amari Cooper.

See Laremy Tunsil.

If you scroll down a bit, someone says he has a handful of teams he won’t demand a new extension for. I don’t see the source. The fact that the Jets were open to trading him probably still resonates with Adams.

Ramsey was demanding a new contract too but he hasn’t even been pressuring for a new deal like he was in Jacksonville, he’s entering his 5th year now with LA.

So your plan would be to watch him hold out for that new deal next year, or walk away in two years?

Actually I’d prefer they didn’t trade premium picks for him but if you do, you resign him but you may not be in a rush to do so.

As I've stated, you have to get the extension done at the time of the trade. Otherwise, you're giving all leverage to the player and agent, with them knowing that you have to keep them, given the draft investment.

To what end? Would you then let him walk rather than paying him?
No. But it may make them more willing to negotiate a trade if they dont have to immediately negotiate a contract. Personally I believe if you are going to do the trade, you should extend him now. But that may not be what the Cowboys themselves prefer

Come on...we all know how this plays out. in another week, the rumors will heat up more and more..Fisher will report that Dallas is on the verge of closing a deal...Schefter will report that its almost a done deal...Rappaport will say Dallas and Adams agent are just finalizing contract numbers.. then finally the Breaking News will pop up on the NFL Network banner..Jamal Adams is officially ...a Raven....after sending a 2022 2nd rd pick to NY...

Then I think you're right and if they thought that way, the Cowboys would be wrong. But I think they've learned their lesson with the Cooper trade and being forced to pay him top market money because of what they gave up to get him. I don't see them making that same mistake twice.

Well that’s a risk you’re willing to take to have a playmaker on a cheap one year deal with a doable second year option.

Teams aren’t going to generally proactively extend a player entering his fourth year. That rookie contract is going to be the only leverage the Jets have and Jamal has already supposedly said he won’t demand an immediate extension if traded to Dallas.

It's not a risk, it's bad business. Go look at what the Texans had to pay to keep Laremy Tunsil, who is an average left tackle. Why? Because they gave us so much draft capital to acquire him that they had to keep him - and he knew it. He's now far and away the highest paid tackle in the league, despite not being close to the best in performance. The Cowboys had to pay Cooper $20 million a year for the same reason, and they would to keep Adams as well, given what they would give up in draft compensation. Not getting the extension up front is dumb and bad business.

Because he and his agent know that they would have the team that traded for him over a barrel in future negotiations. You don't trade away a first round draft pick-plus for a one or two year rental. This shouldn't be that hard to understand.

Then to go even further..., the Ravens cut Earl Thomas and we sign him only to realize he’s now the ghost of Earl Thomas lol.

Jets have no reason to trade him now. What are they going to get, picks in 2021? They can get that after the 2020 season.

Not the same ones.

Just like there's no way they would now get the 1st and two 2nds they were looking for last year.

Every year the player gets closer to free agency or that 5th year boost in pay, the lower his trade value becomes.

I don't know if the new brain trust thinks Safety is a higher priority than the old guard did. He would definitely make our defense better, but would he really get them that much closer to elite?

Spot on. His value is high. Keeps getting closer to free agency no one will be willing to give up a haul when possibly could get them in free agency

There are a lot of factors involved in his trade value, not just the fact that he's a great young player.

Caden Sterns
Hamsah Nasirildeen
Richard LeCounte
Trevon Moehrig
Andre Cisco

Sterns is an ankle-biter as a tackler. He doesn't show enough physicality and almost seems to avoid contact, reminds me some of Xavier Woods.
Nasiirldeen has unique size and movement skills but struggles with man coverage and some scouts think he's better suited for outside linebacker.
LeCounte is kind of small and gets beat in coverage a lot. I like that he's aggressive but he really struggles in space.
Moehrig is the one guy on your list who could make a huge leap next year. I'm intrigued by him with my only major concern is his long speed.
Cisco makes a lot of plays on the ball so I want to like him, but he's another guy who doesn't want to consistently tackle or fill run lanes. He reminds me of the Louisville safety (Gerod Holliman) who had a ton of interceptions but ended up drafted in the 7th round, and was out of the league in a year.

You forgot Oregon's Jevon Holland. He's an ex-receiver and still returns kicks and punts. Obvious athleticism back there but I'm not sold that he's technically sound and he struggles with the nuances of playing safety.Like Moehrig, he could be a guy who improves leaps and bounds next season.

I personally like Nasirildeen and Moehrig a lot, but these guys are not 1st round locks, maybe Nasiirildeen. None of these guys are on Adams level (picked 6th overall) and are players I'd be afraid to lose out on by trading next year's 1st. No safeties went in the 1st round of 2020. Five safeties: McKinney, Dugger, Delpit, Winfield, and Chinn went in the 2nd round and I don't think next year's class is as good as those 5 guys. I don't think these guys justify your claim that the 2021 safety class is strong.
