The options at starting RDE is already very thin...
- Crawford has troublesome with both hips, and he was always very average as an edge rusher at DE,
- Alden is a recovering alcoholic 4 yr absentee with always one slip strike away from life ban in NFL
- and there's only a raw 5th rd rookie (Bradlee Anae) and JAG ( Armstrong)
- Not really known the matter with Gregory. Goodell delays or a change of heart ?
And these cries for Clowney and Griffin ?
- at age 32, Everson will demand that final deal of his remaining NFL career.
- and Clowney is just a 3 to 4 sack guy. Not a difference maker. If he had Quinn's sack numbers
he'd already have his mega deal.
This is where I am. RDE is already sketchy and we're trying to pen in two big "IFs" for production there who will more than likely need to play themselves into shape. I'm worried about that side A LOT early in the year. OLs just need to watch Lawrence and not worry about much else unless another less heralded "if" steps up. I think we need a vet at RDE so Gregory and Smith aren't expected to carry anything there at least for a little while.
I'd take Griffen and Clowney on 1-year deals in a heartbeat. Disagree that Clowney is not a difference maker. His problem has been injuries so he hasn't been able to sustain any kind of dominance. Go look at that first Seattle-SF game in 2019. Clowney was outright dominant. 5 tackles (1 TFL), 1 Sack, 1 FF, 1 FR, 1 Defensive TD, Game-high 5 QB Hits (Seattle had 10 total). No DL is going to give you that every game of course but he did it against the unbeaten 49ers at the time and on the road. That's big game performance.
