This is why I was a huge advocate for getting dak signed after 2018. But jerry and stephen decided their family vacations were more important and allowed russell wilson, wentz, and goff to be signed before dak. But supposedly their first offer to dak was somewhere in the $28m-$30m range which is a joke. Remember all these agents talk and know what other player deals are working. Probably could have had him for $32-$33m at the end of 2018 especially with the offseason we had you knew he was going to have better talent on the offensive side of the ball. We just have a terrible GM
According to JJ they had a deal done until after the fins game and Daks agent decided he wanted more and stopped the deal. I think the offer was or is 36 a year. If it’s true. Who knows. I think a final offer may be made soon. Perhaps 37 and more guaranteed money. Daks agent will want 40..

I think both of those offers after 2018 would have been fair Legit offers. Dak prob could have had his 4 year deal. And he’d still be a top 10 paid QB.

Yea, Jerry can get away paying Dak more than Wilson now cause it won’t make him the highest paid. Thanks to Mahomes.

Signing a long term deal would shut down so many propagandists of Dak hate around here. I hope that is what happens but even if that does not happen, I'm glad he signed his tag and will be our QB for the 2020 season. I won't be discouraged about a long term deal getting done until next year's deadline. Playing on a second franchise tag is the most I think I can take from Dak. After that, he is either an SB champion and thus worth the money or he's still falling short of SBs and may not be the right guy.

Remember dak was on fire those first 3 games. And dak was ballin. Jerry and stephen tried to play the wait and see game and they lost. Did they think after dak started playing lights out he would sign the deal they offered him before a game was played lol. They have zero negotiation skills. The key is to have the foresight to get things done early. I mean they rushed to get ty craw signed to an extension based on what he might do in the future even though he never flashed but not dak lol.

Well $28-$30m was below market but def could have had him for 32-33 and who knows maybe because he would have been the first to sign might have got dak to take the 5 year deal.

Why?

Because then it becomes more about than just his performance and production with Daks unwillingness to negotiate. And the fact our franchise is doubtful he’s worth the demands.

Overall it simply doesn’t create a healthy environment and atmosphere for confidence and success.

And if Dak does over achieve he will hold us up for more ransom and probably look to sign elsewhere.

I think we are saying similar things. If he takes it bad its because he has hurt feelings not financial aspect of it. He will be getting his money this year. Maybe not his preferred way but getting paid regardless. If he plays well and can command a better deal down the road then ultimately that is what he wants. Which is potentially good for both sides.

Everything fell apart after the fins game. For both side really. By 3/4 point in the season I think this team was done with JG and staff.

Probably so but I’m not sure after 2018 if 28-30 was too low. It’s definitely arguable. 30 would have been a good number I think especially if he was first to sign as you suggested.

Brainless cap management and poor drafting also kneecapped Romo’s chances of success. Neither of which have really been an issue over the last 4 years. Well Taco was a horrific selection which I hate to be I told you so but along with others on here highlighted that straight off the bat. But largely can't really complain with the drafting. There haven't been any Mo Claibone type selections giving up of draft picks etc

Agreed. Taco was an easy call from the beginning.

I am also working under the belief they had a gentleman's agreement in place and Dak's camp backed out. If that is true, fault lies with Dak's camp.

Playing on the Franchise Tag works for most positions but not QB. At least IMO. It creates too many doubts and ill wills with a position that needs to be locked up without any mental reservations.

You have to remember these agents represent other players and talk to other teams. They know what the market is. I'm sure the eagles were talking to wentz's ppl for a while before the deal got done. And I'm sure the agent heard the grumblings of $30+m

In an ideal world sure but at the end of the day all of us as employees have to reconcile our feelings with our current pay rate or market value. In his case, he has a mechanism to get paid regardless of reaching an "agreement". If he's confident in his abilities this shouldn't affect him. He chose a profession where being publicly judged\graded is just part of the deal. I'm sure its not always easy but its a basic requirement to be in public life.

In a perfect world yes but for a QB in the NFL I’d argue it’s not an ideal situation.

I wouldn't say dak fell apart. The team did but not dak. Dak was the best player on the team last year.
That’s arguable since he didn’t even make the Pro Bowl when others did.

Our offense struggled scoring in all 8 of our losses averaging about 17 points a game. In 3 of those losses didn’t even put up a TD.

Bless your heart Reality. But the Dak contract arguments aren’t going to end if he plays on the tag. They will continue all season long about whether he should be resigned next off season.

oh and every single off target pass or bad game is going to bring out the worst in people too.
Unless he signs a contract for 25M a year, which is never happening, his contract will be discussed until we win a super bowl.
