Unless you have Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson, a younger Brady, etc.......
Putting Mahomes in the same sentence w/Rodgers & Brady is like putting Foles on there too. Mahomes is overrated & definitely over paid for winning one championship.

Dak isn't asking for 40 million so your entire argument is null and void.

And its pretty obvious you have a 1st grade level understanding of modern QB contracts.

25 million for a good QB was about 10 years ago when Romo resigned. If you are going to pay 15 million for a QB you better have the 95 Bears defense and Walter Payton at RB. I believe Bridgewater signed for 20 million you want someone worse then him?
He wants upper 30s we are splitting hairs. Cam, Dalton, Winston.

All could win here with the supporting cast IMO

how do you figure we get up into the top 5 picks to get the mahomes type sure top 10 trades if a qb falls but even then you have to lose or give u the farm and what if that picks busts? there are no sure things and this isnt baseball with no cap and where most draft picks have years to develop..
Sign a FA. There will be a surplus again next year. CFB or no CFB Laurence and Fields will take two spots

That’s pretty much what they’re doing, isn’t it?

Sure, the college game is producing better quarterbacks and receivers, but do you trust this front office to pick the right one? Dak wasn’t even their third choice, we could have been saddled with Cook.

It’s a team sport but no position is more important. Winston single handedly sunk the Bucs’ chances last year.

Im good with Dak on the franchise tag this year and next. Then let’s see what happens.
I’m not sure Dak on the tag is feasible with a reduced cap.

For the record drafting a qb in the top 10 is not moneyballing the position.

Winston is one of the worst QB's I have ever seen. Had that turd pegged when he was drafted. No way you ever win with that guy. Dalton is solid, but lacks leadership and clutch abilities. He is a statue back there.

Belli is the ONLY guy that could possibly take Cam to the SB. is he too old? Personally, I cant stand that stupid outfit wearing puff.

I do like the fact that you seem to think that an elite QB isn't a necessity.

And based on reports...………..Dak is fine with 35 for 4 years.

Dak is pretty good, but there is no need to over pay. If another team wants to pay him 40 million so be it. It’s a mistake.

keep the position at 15-25 Million. Keep the core of the team together especially with likely cap reductions upcoming.

Not a bad idea! I mean without risk there is no reward. What's the worst that could happen you miss on a QB and the team stumbles to an 8-8 or 7-9 season. This team ain't winning a SB with Dak so at least your on the hunt looking for the next QB instead of being saddled with a ball and chain for 35 mil a year for 5 years. The days of having a defense that can take over games are gone. The only reason the 49ers have it is because Garopolo got hurt and the team was so bad they kept drafting dline in the first round. Dak couldn't of won a SB with that defense and these clowns want to hang onto him like he is gold.

Sitting here thinking about the Cowboys this past decade, it amazes me that the team actually had several good regular seasons and a playoff win, especially when you consider we have a very intrusive, egotistical owner that is all "hands on" as well as a former coach with the brains of Gomer Pyle. With a better roster and new coaches, Dak will be under alot of pressure. No More Excuses.

:hammer:

People seem to forget Jerry's preferred QB choices included Paxton Lynch, Cook, Manziel, Quincy Carter. We just happened to luck up and get Romo and Dak, neither of which were Jerry's top choice for starting QBs

Excellent reminder post. So true. The sustained mediocrity could have been prolonged cellar dweller status.
My, how the standards shifted.
Now we yearn for one playoff win.

Cam has already been to the Super Bowl. So this comment is false

I do like the fact that you seem to think that an elite QB isn't a necessity.

Why, you seem to . . . With your support of Dak.

I can definitely understand this line of thought.
If you move on from Dak then you need to build a dominant defense and maintain a good supporting cast on offense,
and must have a reasonably priced QB that is at least a good bus driver.
Can be done. Also risky.
My hope is sign Dak at a deal no more than 4 yrs/120 million.
I believe he is good enough to win a Super Bowl with a good defense/coaching,
but not if he takes up so much cap they can't afford to build a defense.
With the cap, there's a lot to consider.

Well this would be the smart way to go, but the jones boys are running the show, so this wont happen.
