...do you know how many good QBs there are in the league? finding one is extremely difficult.
using a 1st round pick on one is far from any sort of guarantee of even being average.
chances are you miss a few times before finding a guy.
we're in for years of misery.
It's not like we've been playing in the Super Bowl recently...

Well we either stay as we are. Stick with a game manager at QB even though the offense is loaded and built for a QB to win shoot outs. People complain about the defense not being good enough...well we could give up some weapons on offense to improve the defense but then a QB like Prescott would struggle even more against good defenses.

It's a difficult situation as Prescott is durable and solid at completing regulation throws. He generally doesn't make bad mistakes but then he leaves a lot of plays on the field which knee caps the type of offense that we have. Given the investment in this offense, Prescott is just a bad fit. He would be better utilised on a team that has an elite defense and where their defense wins games and the offense is just asked to not lose games.

The answer is that we either go with a QB who can win shoot outs and/or a rookie QB who doesn't lose games and is a game manager like Prescott...but for $30 million cheaper so that we can upgrade the defense. Dalton is a vet but on a pittance so could fulfill this role next season. The front office has seemingly come across to this line of thinking.

Maybe it is not the end of the world? Dallas and the new coach will have another year to evaluate Dak before an extension.

.....perhaps, but more likely it gives MM and the scouts time to evaluate their next Quarterback via draft, trade or free agency

MM demands excellence at the QB position.......

I would have loved to wake up today to the news that Dalton has been extended for an additional two years and Dak has been told that the current offer is the final offer and if he doesn’t sign it, it will be pulled and trading him at any point before the deadline will be a serious option for the team going forward. Oh, and by the way Dak, until then you will be in an open QB competition with Dalton and the best player will be the QB. Good luck to you!

I am pretty sure they told me he was getting signed by the deadline!

and they wanted to see my tears!
If no deal is struck they’ll come out bashing Daddy and Son for not stepping up to secure him. There won’t be any accountability towards Dak.

Both Charean Williams who reported this based on what Clarence Hill reported failed the one Gee I believe it thing. Not a single direct quote from any of the 4 people that are involved in the negotiations. I'm mean this time they didn't even use the "a source" said which is nothing more than attempts to lend credibility to what they are saying but failing. Nobody knows if a deal will happen, most of all sportswriters and insiders who are not involved in the negotiations.
.
.
Charean Williams has been sourced closely into the Cowboys for decades. Clarence Hill is a clown show.

we're going to lose Dak and have nothing at QB and will waste having Cooper, Gallup, and Lamb together.
better make some noise this season. all we've got at this point.
They own Dak as long as they want him.

The question is, do they want him much longer?

You think drafting a QB that will full utilize this ofence will be that easy? I don’t.
Big shock to some when we go into the draft and come out with a Copper Rush or who was the next big dog we had. Mike White... He isn’t even on the team anymore. They don’t grow on trees

Nobody freak out. If he plays on the tag this year. Then Dak is fine with it. If we make the playoffs then JJ will offer more. And the deadline is not even here yet. I am sure one side will pick up the phone and call.

It would be a huge stretch to not think Dak is at least good. At most the concern would be his level of "good" - is he great, very good or good.
He will be improved this year. So what was he last year. Lol. Depends on who you ask.

I remember so many arguments in if Romo was top 10.

We could have drafted Hurts, Love or Fromm in the QB draft class just gone. But chances are a few quarterbacks will increase their stock before the 2021 draft like Burrow just did.

Guys like Martin and Smith should have at least 3 years left. Zeke is tied in for at least two more seasons. Just signed Cooper long term. Lamb is on a rookie contract.

The ceiling isn't very high with Prescott and he was most productive during his rookie season. I'm hoping that the front office have concluded their negotiations with Prescott and his representative and are making alternative longer term plans.
Who knows how those QB’s will turn out. Look at the top 10 QB’s from the ‘18 class...Mayfield, Allen, Rosen and Darnold are all still big question marcs after 2 yeers in the league. Lamar is obviously the exception.

So even assooming it takes 2 years to get there act together, Martin, Smith, zeke and many others may be gone or going downhill which some already are. If we have to give up any draft picks it will be that much harder to fill those gaps and replace those guys.

I dunno, on paper it may look good but in reality it may not be practical and wood be very high risk IMO.

After this year and certainly next year some of the above QBs will be available. But Dak will be signed. If not this year then next year. If we do better as a team and get further in the playoffs the JJ will make him a offer he can’t refuse.

He will after this season. But will come back in time to get that 37 million. No way he passes that up. To much cheddar on the table.
