Ourselves,
for thinking its the end of the world either way.
Not getting any extention is definitely not good. Not getting it done now will probably result in another tag in 2021, which would likely be 10 million more than his cap figure if we sign him today. His 2021 tag will likely be 38 million, his 2021 base if he signs an extension will likely be 27 million. That extension base is just a figure that was guessed by Schefter, so thats not solid. But either way, it would crippling not to get it done now

You really can't assume he would be tagged a 2nd time.
We have no idea

Then there is the other angle. What if Mccarthy decides after this year that Dak isn't as special as Jerry thinks? Not saying that will happen, but this one year tag does give MM a chance to see Dak in his offense.

Why wouldn't he be? Do you think they would let him be unrestricted in 2021?

On top of that, good chance Watson gets extended and Daks asking price goes up. We may have to sign him for 37-40 per as opposed to the 35 that both sides have supposedly agreed on.

The FO is absolutely foolish if dont finish this deal. Standing there ground on that 5th year is going to cost them one way or the other

I didn't say he might not get tagged, but I said did say we don't know if he would play under the tag. A long term deal could just as easily get done before July 15, 2021.

If it takes Mike McCarthy a year to figure out Dak Prescott isnt his QB, then fire him. He had plenty of time to look at tape before interviewing for the job.

Dak.

Dak hired this agent knowing he'd try to wreck the team.
Reports coming out locally and nationally are blaming the Cowboys for not getting a deal done to secure Dak. Saying it cost us financially if we intend on keeping him. If not then this might be it for Dak this year.

That was in no way shocking.
As much as I agree with you on Daks contract the bottomline here is if we want Dak we must be flexible and creative in negotiating a deal.

And part of their criticism is since we didn’t get a deal done last year wanting to wait it has placed us in a more vulnerable situation. Most critics feel Dak strengthened his stance with 2019 production which uplifts his negotiation situation .

The bottomline and what many of these opinions are based on is if we are seriously intent on retaining Dak long term we needed to make a deal . If we aren’t intent in retaining Dak then this stance by the Cowboys makes more sense

I was actually prepared to applaud Jerry for standing firm but apparently this could cost us retaining Dak long term . Which if that’s what you wanted then you might be more pleased but the critics are saying Jerry could be blowing securing our franchise QB.

In the meantime Dak gets 31 million and in an offense which will probably further strengthen his negotiating stance next year.
