Damn. 3/4 of the DL replaced in one offseason. What an indictment on the former regime’s tired philosophy lol...

Cannot wait to see the growth/maturity in this defense! We have quietly added some serious pro bowl caliber talent to the unit, and upgraded the coaching staff.

We are young and raw (but talented) in the secondary, but man oh man, we have a stout front 7.
Agreed. Very poorly managed the last few years of Garrett. I remember 2 years ago it was the most stacked d-line free agency class (you could of literally gotten Danny Shelton and Johnathan Hankins for the combined price of cutting Crawford) which would of also freed up the 2nd round pick for Juan thornhill (so basically immediately improve 3 defensive positions in one swoop) but of course we got the BS of "uhhh we like the guys we have".

It's good that new management is basically like "I don't care who started last year where looking for improvements now"

I love this signing but I wonder what it would have cost them to sign him to a 2 year deal. I feel like it would have been more effective to get his replacement next offseason but not be forced into it. Would he have signed for $18m over 2 years? I mean the money is there with a crawford cut. 1 year deals are nice but we don't even have his replacement on the roster.
Good point. It will all work out though because until the Cowboys get a young cheap talent at that spot there will always be someone out there for affordable price that will be better. 2 years though would give them more time like you said

I think the 1 yr deal is a great way to add pass rush depth to your team without getting stuck paying top $ for top people. They will be out to prove they can still play in hopes of landing the long term deals so you get them at their best for a cheap cost. A couple of years ago it was Hardy, last year it was Quinn, this year it's Griffen, next year you go get another one!

That's great but what if the guys available next year 1. cost too much. 2. get signed elsewhere or 3. don't want to play for the cowboys. I'm not a fan of the unknown and being jammed into a move. Now next draft everyone will know we are looking for a d lineman and secondary help again.

Meh, signing, what Griffin are we getting. he 32 and we are hoping he's what he was in Minnesota, we're hoping McCoy is what he was in Tampa. Until I see it it's Meh.

If Griffen does as good as last season where he was only ranked 33rd on sacks by defensive linemen with 8 and getting to the Super Bowl then renting him for 1 year could be worth it. He had less than half of the top 2 sack leaders and was average on tackles. Now again if the Cowboys get to the Super Bowl he will demand even more money next year that the Cowboys won't be able to pay.

I really don't have a big problem with Griffen personally other than he sat for a long time unsigned, I'm just not big on renting higher priced free agents for just one season.

Wow! I don't want to wake up from this fantastic dream.

I honestly thought we were staying away from him because of the drinking.

he is still highly productive. It’s not like Minnesota did not want to re-sign him. He simply left for more money, the market wasn’t what he thought. So here we are
