Did I miss Bernard being the only LBer currently available? Why would any team that wasn’t willing to spend a 6th or 7th on him want him now? What have they seen him do to make them think he is worthy of a roster spot? You think some team will give a roster spot based on a few good training camp reports. Not to mention the team who has seen him everyday just cut him.

It might be a move some disagree with, but at this level, with all the money involved, the notion that the Cowboys’ front office is comprised of slobbering fools with little football savvy is kinda deserving of an eyeroll and knowing chuckle. At the very LEAST! Maybe Lee or Gifford are less injured than people think. Maybe they’ve got their eye on someone, plus MAYBE they figure he’ll make it to the PS. What fans see or “know” is many times the tip of the iceberg. Sorry, but these lads are shrewd.

Yeah because teams are always chomping at the bit to add rookies to their active roster who they didn’t think were good enough to draft and haven’t seen do anything since the draft. People say this about 4-5 guys every year and they end up on our PS a day or two later.

We saw just like I said. Best part is that now that he is on the practice squad, they can protect him every week if they want. 4 PS players are essentially low paid roster players. They can be protected every week and moved to and from the roster at will. Bernard is basically on the roster if they want him to be. He can’t be poached unless they leave him unprotected.

I dont think this is true,you can designate 4 players as protected from certain days till sunday and not the entire season.

You can protect 4 players every week so teams will likely protect their top 4 players every week which could be the same 4 players. My point was that if they never want to lose him, he just has to be one of the four every week. If you combine that with the new rule that they can go back and forth as many times as the team wants and you basically have 4 PS players that are essentially active roster players.

So they cut LB Francis Bernard who was tearing it up throughout all of training camp and proving he could not only start but be ready as a backup especially since Sean Lee is starting on IR, but the Cowboys are going to keep 3rd string QB Dinucci on the 53 manned roster even though Dak already has his backup in Andy Dalton?

Possibly, but I doubt it. Bernard is healthy, and he was tearing it up. Someone will pick him up. McCarthy screwed up, especially since Sean Lee will start the season on IR and Luke Gifford is nursing an injury. Huge risk having only 5 healthy LBs to start the season with 2 of those as backups did not perform better than Bernard throughout camp.
