If the Boys keep the opponents to 20 points a game or less we should be in good shape record wise.
This would be fantastic but we have only done this once in the last ten years so I would not get your hopes up. Last year we have up 20.1 PPG and that was only good enough for 8-8. The last time we were truly any good on defense was 2009 at 15.6 PPG.

Hasn't been a defensive coordinator since 2014 in Atlanta.

Took over the Falcons DC job and inherited the #8 defense in the league.

It went to #12, #28, and #32 the next three years.

Nobody offered him a DC position since then.

Excited?
He is an average DC. He has had some decents to runs, and some mediocre to bad runs. If he has good talent, he can probably field a defense good enough to win.

I was underwhelmed with the hire, but there were worse people the could have gone with. Either way Im not gonna chug the Koolaid

His new Boss as in McCarthy? If so, he ran a blitz pressure scheme in Green Bay as well. McCarthy picked this guy for a reason. They run similar schemes.
yes MM will not just allow that side of the ball to go rouge and be bad for a long period, hes not Garett just letting Marinelli and Richard just do whatever.. if Nolan's plan starts spiraling MM will be over there letting him know fix it@!

No chaz green disasters..

Yeah, I don't see this at all. Not that he wouldn't want to fix it if it goes south but McCarthy isn't a Defensive Coach. He's an O guy so while he has an idea of what kind of Defense he wants to play, he isn't a Defensive X's and O's guy. He won't fix anything if it goes South IMO but again, getting back to the original point, the Book on Nolan is that he generally starts strong and sees diminishing results as time goes on. It's more likely that his scheme is successful this year and start to decline in future seasons.

No. not that excited about Nolan. He's probably just average.

But at least he's a coordinator truly on board with the head coach, and that's been a problem around here since Parcells left.
I think average is a huge improvement.

really because as fan if i was on the sideline id recognize over blitzing getting our below average CBs beat all first halt id be at halftime stop the phucking blitzing it aint working!!! Im am 100% sure those words would be being used by MM if he has to win a game 40-39 far too often.. Nolans gone by game 8 if that happens, MM didnt reinvent himself and spend a year working pan, and telling us about his changes and analytics and allow his DC to blow it all up..thats a Garett move leave the kicker and ST coach in all season even though a fan could have done better yanked out of the stands LOL ..

hes now a walk around coach and will be watchig all pahses closely.. his words, wants more time to improve the team vs offense./.

Why would we want to give a young, hungry, innovative coach a chance to do things his way. Just because the last time we did it Jimmy got us 3 rings is no reason no to keep retreading bums.
I get your point, but Jimmy turned 46 in 1989. Not exactly a spring chicken when he got his first NFL job.

Yes, really. As a fan, you don't have the responsibilities all of these guys have on a weekly basis. It's not just as easy as going in and saying "we are changing the scheme up", per say. Scheme is reliant on the talent you have on the roster. If the talent is built for a certain type of scheme, it may not translate. This is not about a game here or there. It's much more then that and I'd advise you to pay more attention to your language and the rules of the board over anything else in this thread.

It is against the board rules to use profanity and/or circumvent the language filter by using different spellings for banned words or language.

Unfortunately McCarthy has already let rogue happen and go on with mediocre DC play when he let his long time DC Dom Capers keep a porous
defense and decline since the SB year. It wasn't until MM's final year did he finally address the DC role and finally replaced Capers.
Capers hasn't had a DC offer on another NFL team since then.

PAST is the past

he said he had year to reflect and change and grow ..

when he is allowing KM to be the fulltime OC and in game play caller and using a lot of the old offense , i say change is already noticed..

lets see, hes changing to a walk around style by design

Past is prologue.
That's something that a wait and see " if " he has changed for the better and capable of changing for the better.
When it comes to their trusted co-workers that they are familiar with, some people tend to hang and hope longer than what they should.

I'm just happy the cowboys will have a new defensive philosophy this season. No more of the same old same old

Well, there really are no bad coaches in the NFL. I mean, all of these guys know the game and all of these guys are good coaches. The real issues are how you are able to teach it, apply it and build talent around it. It is my opinion that if any coach in the NFL is given superior talent to work with, they are going to show positive results. The key in the NFL, the differentiator is the ones who can take lessor talent and show positive results. Those are the really good coaches, to me.

What’s the difference between Nolan and Rob Ryan? Both came from Baltimore during their hay day and both ended up under Payton in NO. Both blitz exotically. Robs blitzes confused this D more than helped it
