There’s always a risk-reward factor to signing a mercurial player like ET. The Cowboys may feel the risk of his character problems are not worth whatever reward may be there. Balt’s secondary got burned pretty bad Sun night by Pat Mahomes, but they could not get rid of ET fast enough.

There’s also the possibility that this coaching staff feels they can coach up some of their youngsters in that secondary. They may or may not be right about that. But the idea that a recently twice severely injured 30 something safety who has shown to be late for meetings, not listen to coaches, and fight with teammates, is somehow “the answer” to our secondary problems, is foolish in my opinion.

Very interesting and insightful article. The alleged issues in the article have credence simply because there are no teams other than the Texans beating his door down.

The Seahawks situation is the most pertinent for Dallas. There isn’t another safety nor player that can be the Kam Chancellor here.

The takeaway here is that SITUATIONS matter, be it players or most coaches. Fans hear a name or see a player excel in one place and they automatically assume they will replicate here. Unfortunately, history is replete with examples that is not likely. And it’s not just here.

i realize this is an ET thread, but the situational success question is valid in Big Mike’s case. Is he George Seifert or Bill Parcells?

Charles Robinson is a well-informed, reliable source in my opinion. He's provided many internal details and decisions with the Cowboys before. I trust his reporting, and everything he's saying lines up with the facts.

No matter how badly the Dallas secondary plays, it's clear that they won't be reaching out to Earl Thomas.

Or maybe we continue to work at it and improve? I'm not happy about the defense either, but taking a look at the quarterbacks we've faced, it hasn't been a lineup of scrubs. All three have either appeared in a Super Bowl or won it.

If Baker Mayfield and Daniel Jones are having career days over the next few weeks, I reserve the right to feel differently.

Thomas wasn't going to ride in on a white horse and save the day. He's not a leader, he's not the player he was in his prime, and I'm glad he's signing somewhere so this incessant ET fantasy can end.
