McCarthy was supposed to give Dallas an edge

Put it this way. McCarthy has been awarded as many game balls for victories (one) as former Baylor coach Matt Rhule has picked up in Carolina. The difference is that Rhule inherited an awful team that lost its last eight games in 2019, moved on from quarterback Cam Newton and, by all rights, should have about the worst defense in the league this season.

But the Panthers have given up fewer yards and points than Dallas, so at least Carolina fans can see where their new coach is putting his stamp on his team, even if there’s a long road ahead.

McCarthy is supposed to have the shortest road of all these new coaches. The Joneses aren’t looking for someone to get this team to 9-7. Garrett averaged that for nine years here.

Against another coach who suffered the same challenges that the pandemic delivered to all new coaches, McCarthy needs to show Cowboys fans Sunday what his experience and wisdom are all about.

Big Mike needs a win.

1-3 is near season ending, just like an 0-3 start.

We have to win the NFC E to make the playoffs.

a 4th seed is our best shot.

Zeke seems unfocused. Just my take. He needs to get his mind right. The way I see it, the lack of a preseason and mini camp really hurt this team because we were already behind the curve due to all the changes we had with coaches/staff/ and scheme. Its gonna be an uphill battle but my hope is we start to click as a team by midseason. The side of the ball affected worse clearly has been the defense. In reality..this is what I expected honestly. I always knew it would be a learning curve.

too much uncertainty and change has put us behind.

Clearly no normal offseason, training camp and preseason has negatively impacted the Cowboys. Especially on defense. Just need more time to sort it out. Winnable games coming up.
I am waiting for the crab-people to emerge from the Gulf of Mexico, sneak up to The Star under the cover of night and eat half the team during a practice. Wouldn't surprise me at this point.

Let's be candid here. What the large majority of us here wanted as HC was ABG, Anyone But Garrett.

The only HC's available unless a team was willing to trade theirs for 2 1st rounders were fired HC's, assistant coaches and college coaches.

Now, let's narrow that down to candidates that are going to make the owner comfortable. That's the first requirement.

Of all the names mentioned, McC was the one I wanted after Rivera was snagged by WAS. I am not second guessing that but I am wondering about that year he spent just watching football and how far was he willing to bend to get the Cowboys job? What did he say in those 12 hours for Booger to call off the search and offer him the job?

I will say this again for it bears repeating. Do not just look at the coaching and play calling, look at the execution. Was that a bad play called or the wrong D called for that formation or was it poorly executed? Last time I checked, no coaches are on the field blocking, tackling and covering.

The decisions that McC have made have been concerning. I do not trust him in a close game that calls for the right decision. In that regard, nothing has changed.

Sounds like we like the image or whatever perception Mike presents more than whatever edge or results he’s providing thus far.

Regardless whatever results Garrett had many fans didn’t like the image he presented instead of rallying around what success he did have using him as the scapegoat for Jerry’s foolishness.

Amazing how they’re willing to give this HC more of a pass or benefit of the doubt . Well, I won’t stand for it and will continue to hold his feet to the fire much like our local media is and where the thought for this thread title and substance was originated .

That edge is lost when you are forced to start Connor Williams who already cost us two games.

The Browns are the most improved team with a new HC this year. And it will be a better win than was projected when the schedule came out pending their results moving forward of course. They are in a tough division so they have many losses coming.

This fanbase was already talking seriously about our prospects of being included and possibly winning a Super Bowl before this staff ever got settled in Frisco. Unrealistic expectations were already a curse for a new staff that hadn't even settled into their offices yet. Their inability to practice as needed only further worsened their fate. Add to that a pandemic scenario and you have all the makings of a troubled season. Let's be reasonable in terms of what we expect and/or demand from this staff. Don't be upset if it's midseason before any real improvement becomes clear. There were never any guarantees.

After the first three games the Cowboys look like a worse team under McCarthy than they were under Garrett. We’re seeing a lot of the same things. Slow starts, poor coaching/decisions and the team looks unprepared.

“a while...”
We’re in week 4 buddy. It’s getting ridiculous at this point. He shouldn’t have applied for the job if he wasn’t gonna be able to handle it. This team is pure slop. He’s coached for how long? And he needs time? No. Excuses excuses. We the fans are so used to mediocrity that we don’t even notice it when we type or talk about how “1-2 is fine” or “we just need time”. You think the Chiefs, Ravens, Packers, Seahawks, Rams, Bills, etc think like this?

what a shame. We’ve been conditioned
Cant say I totally disagree with part of what you say, but 1-2 isnt really bad in the sense of situational standing, within the worst division in the entire league.
Now is this team playing great ball, obviously not, not currently, but having said that, panic mode isnt right now.

Odds are, the best we can place is a 4th seed.

we’ve wrecked home field advantage, even if we make the playoffs.
