Because of Jerry's ego. McClay is willing to allow Jerry to get the credit when things go right, in exchange for Jerry taking the blame when things go wrong. This arrangement is the worse in sports. Which is why Jerry has 3 playoff wins in the last 24 years. That is one playoff win every 8 years.

Think about this....since Jimmy's influence (coaches/players Jimmy drafted and/or recruited) left the building...we have 3 playoff wins. That is Jerry's track record without Jimmy's fingerprints. I am going to repeat....Jerry has produced 3 playoff wins in 24 years as the primary architect of this franchise. I cannot even put into words how a person with track record gets to continue in their current capacity. We will NEVER sniff a Super Bowl again with this setup.
Probably not . The closest we’ve came to a championship appearance was under Garrett’s watch with 3 divisional playoff games coming down to last possession. I’m afraid that might be as close as we get .

It’s amazing that Will and Stephen were getting all the credit and now Daddy gets all the blame . Selective or hypocritical analysis.

It is interesting that each of the FA signings addressed an acknowledged weakness, particularly with regard to the interior DL. In that regard, I give the FO for finally addressing specific needs. And, yet, it really didn't work out.

For the most part Dallas has used FA to plug holes rather than find that "one player away" from a championship. Yes, I know this isn't a hard and fast rule, but it is certainly the recent pattern. They have also targeted the player with past success that is either coming off an injury or is considered over the hill.

My takeaway is that their intent isn't bad, it has more to do with the execution of that plan. The talent evaluation.

Is there another GM in pro sports capable of surviving this kind of pathetic incompetence without getting fired? Only Mike Brown who also owns the bungles. 30 other GMs get fired for this kind of organizational slop.

This screams either laziness or incompetence or both. Damning either way.

Lol.
Comedy of errors. We like our guys...

To be fair, it looked like McCoy had more left than Poe before McCoy got hurt. Also, Griffen was starting to play better before they traded him. I think he could have helped as well. The problem is, they need a lot more than a little help from a couple of aging vets. The rest of those guys they signed are scrubs. Didn't they also sign the TE, Bell? He is a role player and seems to be doing okay in his role. You have to understand that Jerry's philosophy is to buy a bunch of players cheap and maybe a couple work out. It's not my way of doing things, but this is Jerry's strategy. Its like buying 2 dozen pairs of socks at Costco for $5 knowing they will wear out quickly but with so many pairs you figure a few will last.

How is Will McClay getting a free ride in this train wreck?
No question this is an entire front office failure. But sane organizations don’t fire the Director of Player Personnel when the GM who is the “boss” of everything at the top skates.

If there’s never any accountability for anyone named Jones at the top for their buffoonery and incompetence, there cannot be any serious accountability anywhere else in the organization. That’s Organizational Health 101. It’s the cancer currently eating up our favorite team.

Incompetence. Whatever Jerry is, he's not lazy...

Very true. Any other GM would get fired for a free agent 'haul' like that. But not here. It's just another day at the office.

To say nothing of what Little Enos has done with the contract negotiations.

Screwed around with Lawrence and then paid him AFTER Mack and Donald drove the price up.

Paid Jaylon Smith for no apparent reason, besides thinking he was 'getting a deal'. How's that working out?

And then panicked and paid Elliott two years before he had to, and watched him go in the tank.

Oh, and is still trying to pay Dak, after watching that market go from $25 million a year (remember when that was outrageous when Derek Carr got it?) to now $40 million a year that Mahomes got.

Any other 'contract negotiator' that did a job as poor as that would have been fired as well. But when both are related to the owner?

"We'll get it right next time..."

Funny that all of you were all excited with these signings now you blast the front office. Smh
Yeah I don’t want to hear this hindsight crap. Everyone loved these moves and our draft. So I don’t want to hear this I told you so crap and bargain bin shopping. They spent a lot of money on bad players but no one thought they were bad.

why would you need these many FAs for defense? because your defensive drafting is down right awful....compare offensive draft picks to defensive draft picks. this is the culture of the cowboys, because of jones, and his penchant for glitzzy and glamour and selling jerseys. the whole organization is focused on offense and glitz. why else would we whiff on all defensive players, yet manage to find players like gallup, pollard and schultz in lower part of the draft? yet, we missed on taco, lawrence (sorry, he is not worth 20M/year), jaylon, LVE (history of injuries), Gregory (has spent more time off the field, than on the field), hill, crawford (is he worth his contract?)......and haven't found one player in lower rounds...and we find Jones and manages to let him walk.

this is an entire organizational cultural issue. there is no emphasis on defense. there is no focus on defense. there is no proper evaluation on defense.

what they did with this off season FA signings, is sign a bunch of names that people had heard about.....nobody really evaluated them for fit, ability, etc.

Pro personnel department had a bad off-season. Watching Worley and Poe here locally in Carolina, I knew they were garbage but I had high hopes for McCoy and Zeurlein. Huge disappointments all over the place.

Can't agree on Zeurlein, he's 10 for 10 on fgs inside the 50. After watching Maher go 1 for 5 from 40-49, Zeurlein's consistency is welcomed...

Jerry and Stephen are greedy buffoons. They worship money as Holy Grail in the NFL. Winning is a happenstance result while in pursuit of higher profit margins.

That is sad.
Bum's son took us to two divisional round games. 2007 & 2009
Its sad that since 1995 we have had such few opportunities.

Betchya, he gave himself and the family raises.

This isn't the least bit surprising. What is surprising is that anyone is surprised.
