Is WR Michael Gallup still a lead feature type?

Wait til Dak comes back before we bury Gallup. They had a good chemistry on mid to long passes.

the backup QBs need the key help of the WRs,even more than Dak the starter does.
that's really when we need supporting cast to step it up more than ever, ..when its' harder …. not easier.

He is a nice second
Maybe better than Harper was
He is not and never has been a “lead”
And there is nothing wrong with being a second
I hope we extend him
How could a guy with a 1970 Topps Bob Lilly avatar be wrong? He couldn't. Agree with all of it.

Looks like we may have Alvin Harper 2.0 on our hands.
I think he is a slightly better version of Harper. I think he is a better route runner with more versatility in the route tree. The drops do frustrate me though, and I can see why this argument is made (based on this years production).

Harper never sniffed a 50 catch season or 1000 yards, which Gallup achieved his second year. There was always a huge gap in catches between Irvin and Harper. Harper caught 36 and 33 passes in his best years in Dallas, those years Irvin caught 88 and 79 passes. The gap between Gallup and Cooper was much closer last year - Cooper had very similar stats to Irvin with 79, however Gallup had 66 catches.

i think he's an outstanding receiver. cooper, lambo and gallup all have a drop on occasion. there hasn't been a lot of continuity this season due to injuries. hopefully dalton will continue to play like he did against the vikes.

Gallup is much more athletic than Harper was. Harper was fast and that's about it.

Harper wasn't even that fast. If he had been that 70 yard pass that clinched the 1992 NFC Championship game would have been a TD instead of getting chased down by Dana Hall and remember that 90+ yarder in the playoff game against Green Bay where he also got run down from behind? His gift was leaping ability and size. Remember he was a high jumper at Tennessee with a stupid vertical. He was much more athlete than receiver.. which is why number one corners always shut him down.

I was really hoping once we got better QB play and getting the balls more to the receivers, that Gallup
would step up and make his presence felt.

-We've seen Cooper come up with some key catches and staying involved in the offense.
-We've seen rookie CeeDee Lamb emerge mightily to greatly impact the game
-But is Michael Gallup in somewhat of a slump -that includes issues with drops ?

McCarthy made comments that he thought Gallup had No.1 lead WR traits, but while he can have his
moments, i tend to wonder if the inconsistencies in his game such as the untimely drops and disappearing acts may still limit him from being a No1.1 type.

Gallup appears to be a quality #2 receiver whose best trait is stretching the field. He does struggle with consistency especially with his drops.

Agreed, not that fast, but decent speed. His leaping ability was his calling card. And with having single coverage constantly with the #2 corner, he had feasting opportunities.

I didn't say he was super fast, just fast. Every TD I remember from him was him just running a straight line to the end zone, and Troy arcing a pass over his shoulder. (Full disclosure: It just might be the same pass I'm remembering over and over.)

Yeah I think it might surprise a lot of people to know that in the four seasons they played together Irvin had a better yards per catch than Harp did twice.. And that was while accumulating almost 3 times as many catches. Harp could absolutely abuse most teams' #2 corner.. but as he found out when he took the money and ran to Tampa.. being a #1 receiver meant facing a lot more #1 corners.. and he was not up to that challenge.

yes Gallup will be fine and not many teams have a #1 and thats it they have up to 3 1a 1b 1c types that fill roles as we do now..IMHO when we settle down the OL, continue getting the run game more efficient, and have our starting QB in place, Gallup will be fine..CD didnt have singe catch against the eagles did he? he had that one game maybe WFT where the fumbled a big play etc etc all of the, make mistakes and have games where they lose focus..

I believe 2022 AC is the odd man out with bunch of big contracts will be cap casualty's and we go younger and cheaper and gallup will fit that role..

The hope here is that when that time comes, Coop will either be a) ballin at such a level that it will look blatantly stupid to part ways with him or b) understand that his role will need to change and that he will need to redo his deal so that we can keep the band together. My money is on a) if Dak comes back and picks up where he left off. All three guys were on pace for over 1100 yards and Coop was top 2 or 3 in the league in catches and yards when Dak went down. If he repeats that next year I'd be more comfortable letting Gallup walk in 2022 than Coop even given the price differential. Lamb may well have ascended to the #1 role by then anyway.. Either way Coop will be 28 in two years.. and probably just be hitting his physical prime. As long as the nagging injuries don't take him down he's gonna be a good receiver in this league for 10 more years.

If Dak was his QB he would be on his way to 1k.

I think Gallup is a really good route runner but Amari is on another level and CeeDee is a level below that. Which makes it easier for backup QBs that don't know the offense or the receivers as well as Dak did.

So to answer the question....Gallup is a #1 type of receiver without a doubt. He is just not as good as the other 2 #1s on the roster.

I don't think it's fair to judge Gallup this year. With Prescott out, Dalton is going to Cooper and Lamb. It's easy to look at the stat sheet and see Gallup's receptions and yards have both fallen since Dak was injured.

I was simply spitballing future cap issues and Dlaw, Zeke, Jsmith, and AC might be up for trades aor cuts to help the cap..

Yes with Dak Prescott at QB. Just like Alvin Haper, and Kevin Williams with Troy Aikman at QB.

all the more reason when he has those limited chances to make the big play grabs,.. he has to come thru and hold onto to those thrown passes.
He has to step up in these instances and do his part.

He seems to have a really limited number of routes. Either quick WR screen or something long. He should still be a productive player with Dak throwing to him but I honestly would have traded him for a 2nd after getting Lamb. A 2nd should be able to land a cheap defensive starter.

Gallup is fine.

He is a great deep ball receiver. Dak is one of the better deep ball passers in the league.

Cooper and Lamb are the more dangerous route runners and underneath threats. Nothing wrong with Gallup getting less looks than those two.

Either way. There’s nothing wrong with Gallup. We have him one more year at a reasonable contract.
