Is WR Michael Gallup still a lead feature type?

Let me start by saying I love Gallup. He can put up low tier #1 numbers if hes next to a #1 in todays NFL, but he cannot be your best receiver. He is going to make eye popping plays. He will come up clutch, but hes also a chest catcher which limits some of the routes hes able to run, and it limits how comfortable a QB will feel throwing to him in certain situations.

Good thing is he will never have to be our best WR here. Cooper and Lamb will be that. I think he is good as a 3rd WR. He would exposed if some team wanted him as their top WR ala Laurent Robinson. I see Gallup as a tad better version of Terrence Williams. Both body catch way too often and drop balls.

" tad better version than Terrence Williams ?" … Ii think Gallup is waaay better TWill ever was. Despite Gallups' inconsistencies, he's not the disappearance act TWill was.
- TWill body catched a lot more than Gallup does
- Twill was never the deep ball treat Gallup is
- TWill could not out-jump and out-physical the opposing CBs the way Gallup does
- Twill was never the open field runner after the catch that Gallup is.
- Both issues with dropped passes

Little wonder why TWill is not even in the NFL now, and no team has come knocking at his door to acquire his services.

Gallup never really morphed into that WR1 type. Probably one of the better WR2 in the league

Yep. Gallup isn’t going to blow anyone away with crisp cuts and speedy outs. He is best at posting up defenders on downfield passes especially in 1:1 coverage. Cooper helps him by drawing attention.

He seems to have a really limited number of routes. Either quick WR screen or something long. He should still be a productive player with Dak throwing to him but I honestly would have traded him for a 2nd after getting Lamb. A 2nd should be able to land a cheap defensive starter.

His routes are likely limited only by the plays drawn up.

I honestly don't see the body catching very often. In fact, that may be when he drops it most often. It seems sometimes like he needs a challenge, because he catches a lot of very difficult balls.

I like Gallup but he's not a #1 receiver who can beat double teams. He is a downfield guy who can beat single coverage and put up big numbers. Right now it is tough to get Gallup going when the QB gets so little time but he needs to take advantage of the opportunities he does get and not drop those passes like last week.

The game that Dak got hurt and Gallup got the big catches on the final drive for the win was Peak Gallup. We should have traded him while he still looked like a potential #1, given his numbers from last year.

Gallup has been bypassed by Cooper and Lamb, two legit ones, and will have to fight to clearly stay head and shoulders above CWilson. Come next year, with limited targets after Cooper, Lamb, and Jarwin, the debate on Gallup will be whether he's a #2 or #3. A little unfair, as he's a legit #2, but that's it.

AC disappeared in about half his games last year so Gallup allowed to have some down games..Gallup came pretty Close to outperforming AC last season, so not sure what you are smoking but Lambs had bad games as well..

guess we should have traded Dak while he was hot, now he damaged goods..

Gallup is only a downfield threat because teams would rather take their chances with him downfield, given the threat of Cooper opposite.

Just ok size, speed, catch radius, vertical, competition for the ball. His deep threat is a product of the situation he found himself in. He's a better Terrance that way.

Bob Lilly is Cowboys royalty as far as I am concerned. There is a recent YouTube video interview when he turned 80. Seemed like a great guy.

Gallup doesn't throw the balls or call the route combinations and his talent hasn't suddenly dropped off, he's just in more of a sharing situation. He definitely still has #1 potential, but high level #2 is probably more likely. I'd have no problem moving on from Cooper and rolling with Gallup and Lamb.

I believe Gallup would be more effective if used more like Carolina uses Curtis Samuel.
