It depends how you view Cooper. Cooper wasn't a #1 in Oakland..he actually was one of the worst starters in the league when they got him.......
We had to trade away a first because dak couldn’t elevate his teammates

Well dak was not drafted as the future qb of the cowboys lol, he was a project and mainly as a bkup and with no injuries, he would have been # 3 !
Cowboys had him behind kellen, going into the season, then dak used his voodoo dolls to snap kellens ankle, and jam tonys back, and walla !
He was the starter!
There was no plan for Dak , he used voodoo, and then took advantage of his being the starter, which was said early on , just until tony could be ready to play.
Problem was after losing his first game dak started winning and won 7 in a row, and at that point tony was ready, but dak had just dazzled the jones boys
and fans!
Or was he using that voodoo again, maybe he is a jedi , uses that mind control stuff !:p:popcorn:

We had to trade a #1 because Witten retired, T-Williams was out of the league, Cole Beasley was a decent slot, Allen Hurns was 3rd or 4th receiver at best.......we basically told Dak to go out there with a bunch of 3rd string receivers and make it work.

Of course though when they traded for Amari all of a sudden he knew how to play football again. But go off lol. Tell me how Dak sucks because he couldn't elevate Terrence Willams lol.....

Probably the same reason why Romo was sitting behind Bledsoe. Or why the Cowboys drafted Steve Walsh when they had Aikman. Or why Lamar Jackson was sitting behind Flacco. Or why Pat Mahomes was sitting behind Alex Smith...or why Tom Brady was sharing snaps with Henson at Michigan or sitting behind Bledsoe........

What a odd take from you.

or Meredith behind Eddie LeBarron.
Roger sat behind Morton.
Danny behind Roger.

you usually do have to wait your turn.

Exactly...they somehow made "waiting your turn" into "you aren't good enough"....its dumb and silly logic. Especially with the Cowboys. Cowboys have proven they aren't the best evaluators of their own talent.

Hey, Pappy, that engine of yours has too much carbon in it. Too much soot and grime in your pipes. It looks like you need a V8......and a motor flush!

The Cowboys had a 36 year old starter with injury issues and a 28 year old noodle arm as his backup. The Cowboys took a flyer on Dak and yes, if not for the injuries he might not have been the opening day starter in 2016.. but I have a feeling that even if nobody gets hurt, when Dak got a chance to go into those preseason games against future grocery clerks and lit them up (like he did to the starters) the Cowboys plan for him would have changed. He would have gone from "possible future backup" to "we just might have something..." . It would have played out similar to what it did in Romo's early years in Dallas. He would come in late in the preseason games, looks good and raise a couple of eyebrows but because of Parcells' loyalty to Vinny and Bledsoe he'd go back to the bench. Which was probably the best thing for him at that point. But Romo was GOING to get hurt again and Moore was GOING to get exposed so at some point the coaching staff was GOING to give Dak a shot. Maybe it would have taken another year.. maybe two.. but at some point Jerry would have seen what Dak was doing in the preseason games and said " Let's see what the kid can do.."

Nice to hear our franchise QB is doing well in his rehab and staying positive while also trying to help others stay that way. He really has remarkable leadership skills and it's easy to see why his teammates rally around him. It's strange to me that people would pick this thread to come in and crap on him. But when I look at the cast of characters...well crap says it all. Almost as sickening is the fact that Romo (4 years removed) still gets drug around and abused in these same threads. I guess it takes all kinds of crappy people to make the world go around.

Interesting...Dak talks about always having to fill in for the "guy in front of him". Hmmm, he also says it's been that way all his career, and guess what? That's how he became the QB of the Cowboys, because Romo got injured, and that is probably the only way he got the job.

If he is as good as he thinks he is, why was he always "behind" the starters? That's our 4th round QB, was not even drafted high because he was never considered the "first guy", always in second place waiting for an injury. I hope he sent Romo a thank you card.
Romo retiring pretty much said everything a card could have.
